Well we have reached the number for the Bakerboy Wildfowling day out, courtesy of Crouch Valley.

We started with a target of 8 and then Dan allowed us to have 11, we have reached 12 which is a definite cut off point, so no more places available.

Those attending are as follows.

Bakerboy + 2 friends, Claudio and Andy, Non PW members

Philr

Colin F

Blowin

mentalmac

poontang

bighit1985

mcs1972+1

peashooter

If all that are coming could send me their e mail address and a mobile number(as a PM) not on the open forum I would appreciate it.

I can then keep you all up to date as to what is happening,

Some of you whose domain and mobile numbers I already know need not bother, you know who you are.

Only 53 days to go :yahoo: :good:

Thanks

Terry

We had a few duck and Geese, but not as many as we would have wanted.

There was no wind so the birds stayed very high.

High Tide was at 03.00am and then 15.00 pm.

We were well looked after by Dan and his team, who could not have done anymore for the guns.

I cannot recall what the bag was, and I suppose that tells a tale, but everyone enjoyed the day and the experience, and the majority would do it again.

There is a lot of homework to be done on a day like this, it took us all by surprise, recognition of the species by sound , flight pattern etc. is a real skill, something Dan and his team had in abundance.

It was a long and tiring day, and you certainly need two good legs (I only have one good leg) to comfortably handle the terrain.

There is another thread with pictures and positive comments, it was started by blowin, but I cannot recall the thread title.

Found it,

The issue is you take a load of amateur wildfowlers who are responsible and put them on a marsh how many will shoot much. personally been there and as Terry says you do lots of thinking is it isn't it as it is an alien environment to what us who live inland are used to. I found it a great morning when I had a day the bag wasn't huge but the birds were there and we all had shooting. Though I am not sure sitting in mud in the cold is really for me I'll stick to game shooting and stalking and foxing

I obviously know this marsh very well, and have only had a chance to take the gun twice this year. One time the conditions were near enough perfect but i hardly had a shot. Then more recently I went and conditions were far from ideal, but I had nine teal, two widgeon and a greylag, but could have shot more if I had of wanted too. This may seem excessive to some wildflowers but all my family wanted some ducks and I have had limited opportunity this year to get out. It's just sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't, and mainly when you least expect it, it think it's been on of those seasons that's been hard to predict not just with ducks but deer, pheasants, partridge and pigeon, that's what I have found this year. But you have to be in it to win it as they say

Glad to hear you enjoyed your day.If you have found a taste for it several clubs including the Blackwater Wildfowlers and South Essex wildifowling Club have shooting on the river.Ask any wildfowler and he will tell you that it's the magic of the sights ,sounds and smells of the marsh that draw us out of a warm bed on a cold winters morning. If you get a duck or two so much the better but it's the being there that matters.

You may have missed that I am one of the guides on the marsh, and was one of the first youngest members to be with the Blackwater wildflowers ,back around when they purchased brandy hole so I have been wildifowling for many years.

I was also a member of the BWA at that time .Was amazed how much the marsh had changed after going back there after a break of twenty years.Have also shot up river on other marshes. Was a member of the SEWC in the late 60's and then again more recently. Not having any local connections it was one way of getting into shooting. Most wildfowling clubs offer a chance of rough or pigeon shooting. If anyone out there is looking for shooting BASC will put you in touch with a suitable club.

I was interested as its been terrible of recent with all this water and mild weather, however I know there is quite a few birds in North fambridge but usually little bit down river of where you guys were.

It's not been the best of years, but we still have quite a few teal and it has been the best year for geese on this marsh
