filzee
I have a collection of antique pistols which i have had for a few years now. They have always been something which i love and keep up on my wall. Unfortunately times are very hard at the minute since i have been out of work for a couple of months and seem to be really struggling to get back into work. Every job i go for seems to want to take at least a month before they get back to you. Because of this i am looking to sell probably one but maybe two just to keep me ticking over. The problem i have is i don't have the foggiest as to what there actually worth and best place to sell them. I have; 1860 Army Colt percussion pistol, Remington Smoot Colt "Roots" (i believe its called but might be wrong). I have two other Colts, a Pepper Pot pistol, and a Belgian made Pocket pistol. Any advice or expertise out there would be greatfully received. I have pictures on my phone but can't get them on here. Many Thanks Phil
la bala
sorry to hear you are struggling mate, try to hang in there and get a fair price, people tend to do things in haste when they are down. good luck with you sale
BigEd85
My advice would be to grab a copy of Gunmart and have a look in the militaria bit at the back. There are lots of listing ads in the back and they may give you an idea of value or the name of place/person to call for advice. Actually thinking about it there is probably a good chance you can find one on gunstar, guntrader etc Good luck Ed
saddler
Also have a look at the prices on some specialist auction sites
Gunnerbob
Not good the work situation, sorry to hear you need to sell a prized possession. My suggestion would be to get an auction appraisal and maybe put into a sale where there are other similar items for sale, an advised reserve and your item should fetch a good market price.. Scully
I know how you feel.I have over the years sold most of my collection. I have a 'smoot' also which is worth around the 650 mark, which is in excellent condition, but a dealer will try and tell you that's retail. Condition is everything, but you have some very collectible models there. The bloke you could contact (whose name escapes me) generally has a full page ad' in Gunmart and specialises in this period and especially Colt's. Pete Walker (?) Or you could pick up a copy of militaria collectors magazine in Smiths, which is full of contacts.Or you could visit one of the many N.American websites; they love their Colt's. I think the guy Scully is talking about is Pete Lawman. You'll find him on the Internet.
