not impressed

It might be me but hey ho, went to a gun shop and got some carts for pigeons, no issues there.

Asked for something to sort ducks and geese at close range and was offered 42g of sg shot, I pointed out they were lead and a little large and was offered 32g of size 6.

Left them there.

Ended up with size 4.steel from elsewhere, ok for duck and very close geese but won't push the geese I think.

Surely a gunsmith/shop would know the law ?? It's not like I'm any where remotely near Scotland and I asked for non.toxic.

Thoughts?

One born every minute I'm afraid, just something the rest of us have to live with and be wary of.

Don't worry about what you can't change, you did as much as you could. I thought lead was ok as long as it wasn't over water (yeah, I know where you find ducks thanks) but I have to agree, you'd think they'd at least ask and offer ammunition that won't land you in the brown stuff. See first sentence.....

its best if you learned what cartridges you want and ask for them.

either that or you exclusively order them from JC.

shopkeepers are there to sell there stuff, thats all.

Bit odd that law but hey ho, wasn't happy with A rfd offering me shells that would be illegal, especially when I Said what they were for and then offering shells that would not do the job.

If he had said see u Friday when I get new stock then fair enough, but is it any wonder the non toxic compliance rate given examples like this.

Won't be long till lead is banned.

Agreed, won't use 4 on geese but will duck. Either way I would expect an rfd to sell legal cartridges for wildfowel shooting considering that is what I wanted.

Not sg in lead or 30g #6 also in lead

Maybe the basc could send an email reminding the trade members of the law.

No use moaning about non compliance when the supposed experts are flogging lead and telling you it will bring them down and not to worry about it.

Worth noting other members have similar issues in recent days, so not a one off either.

Food for thought.

what is david going to do? what can he do?

the only sensible thing that can happen is for BASC to send them a sign or leaflet to put up in the shop to conform to the nontoxic law.

it is not the gunshops problem, it is all down to the individual shooter. full stop! dot com !

gunshops do not care where there shells are being used, only that they have been sold and are out the door.

you cannot blame the petrol stations for providing the petrol to allow you to drink and drive !

the only way is education!

niceshot is the lead equivalent of nontoxic world, and is just like lead. shoots and loads like lead ! why not use that??

Well advertisers have been stopped from using the BASC publication for advertising previously and this gunshop tried to persuade a non toxic request into a lead sale. At the end of the day I have dealt with this place just once myself and lets say it was once to much for me.

Its time to take the campaign real seriously we are on the brink

It is totally daft for any gunshop to promote breaking the law, by doing so they are not helping anyone, including themselves and are playing straight into the hands of those who oppose us!

All the trade do know the law and do know what advice to give, if they choose not to, then they are masters of their own destruction - possibly ours too.

You are the customer - you choose which traders to support - those who support us or those who don’t care....

Do I want such a company advertising in shooting and conservation? NO has anyone been stopped before YES! Contact should be made by BASC imo with at least an informal warning. Surely BASC don't need his cash as much as he needs to remain credible as a trade member and advertiser, Will we not kick out individual members who use Lead illegally? If not its time BASC made that commitment public to the membership

I have to say I think the combined campaign of shooting organisations and the general attitude of shooters regarding lead shot is really refreshing. We all know when the law came in that it was ridiculous, but that is the way of it, and breaking the law will do the shooting community no favours.

Exactly it is not for us to ignore those laws we don't fancy. Heck we might as well move to France LOL

Sacre bleu!!! mange tout mange tout rodders!! its shocking that a RFD is openly telling some one to break the law regarding the use of lead shot surely they should be there to give good advise on how to cleanly and legally kill the shooter chosen quarry? i won't be moving to France!! far too many french folk for my liking lol ;)
