welsh1
My son who is in training for the RMP ordered an engagement ring so he could propose next saturday when he comes home for christmas leave,i signed 20 mins ago for a box from FedEx for my sons ring, walked into the house and told the wife the ring had been delivered,it was then i noticed the tape on the end of the box not sealed properly,i pulled the tape off to see the end of the box has had a stanley knife down it to open it,thinking the worst i contact my son and ask him can i open the box. Inside the box is a tearproof fedex envelope which is only sealed in the inch in the centre,i open that and a box for a diamond ring, but only a bulling rag inside and the documents for the diamond. Absolutely gutted, called FedEx and at first they were not interested and wanted me to call back on monday because kevin was not there,***, after becoming a bit shouty i spoke to someone who actually knew what they were doing and a claim has been started, also called the company and they will be starting an investigation. The only good news is that Son just phoned and said it looks like the payment has not gone out of his account,i presume they take it when signed for,so he is on to the bank to stop any attempt to take the money. The daft thing is when i said to the first FedEx numpty that they had stolen the ring, they said i shouldnt make accusations, i pointed out it had been in their care, so who else had stolen it. Kes
At least you may be able to save the day with a 'proxy' ring and an explanation and let the lady choose her own. There's always good can come from bad ! I very much hope she says yes ! Keep your heart rate under control carp often happens, its triumph over adversity that gives the real buzz ! Good luck to them both.
chady
Correct me if I'm wrong but your meant to put the box inside the tare proof envelope? Do you mean like a dead thick bag with fed ex all over it? And I take it the company who sent it obviously sealed the envelope do why did they not seal it properly?? The idea of the bags is so you can clearly see nothing has been tampered with? Good job know money has been taken out. Baffles me I would have thought the company would have done before sending the ring out.
guest1957
Had my lady's £300 glasses stolen that way. Sadly some will take anything.
Sha Bu Le
Depending on the value of the ring (and I don't believe your son would skimp) Contact the police, at the end of the day it is theft nothing more nothing less. Just think how many hopefuls are being robbed by some thieving sorter or delivery scrote. Police mate, it would certainly upset FedEx seniors. HDAV
ALways sign "unchecked" unless you have checked the package......... learnt this after seeing lots of smashed screens....... now if we dont sign for them "unchecked" and they are smashed no claim! Oddly they managed to get from Japan and China to the UK in one peice then got smashed travelling the last 1-200 miles...... HOpefully fedex will take expedient action in this case. Baffles me I would have thought the company would have done before sending the ring out. An update, turns out money was taken when shipped yesterday,so it's not showing on sons account but will. Yes it was the envelope inside the box that had a ring box in it,was only sealed in the middle inch,i was thinking along the lines of someone in a depot slice the box open whip out the envelope slash it open box out ,ring taken and all back into another envelope hastily sealed and put into the larger box .who knows. The company are an american company in seattle and are aware my son is in the military( I laid it on thick) as most companies in USA are keen to help in general and more so for their soldiers, my sons mate who shares his room phoned the company as well and laid it on about having just a little leave, and all the planning, and future bride, the company have made no promises but have said they will try and make another identical ring within the next week and get it shipped out by a different more secure courier,so may be a good outcome yet. They are not promising, but seem to be singing off the right page
norfolk dumpling
Isn't this something for the police? Looks like straightforward theft to me.

The only thing is there services are insured! Is the company sending ring free of charge?
HDAV
Is the company sending ring free of charge? As no ring was recieved they should be.... afterall who knows if there was ever a ring in the box? Sounds like a decent company to deal with, they will deal with fedex insurance (how did your son pay?)
welsh1
Another update, Ring company have phoned my Son and apologised profusely, they realise that time is of the essence and can prepare a ring that is extremely close to the stolen one, but the stone is a better colour and slightly better grade, they said "we will do our utmost to get it to you by the end of the week". Thumbs up to Blue Nile for rectifying a situation that's not their fault. they have been extremely helpful from the word go. Son will be contacting the police tomorrow to report the theft of his ring by fedex
bruno22rf
I agree with calling the police-to help FedEx take you more seriously-ask whoever you speak to to spell out their name-tell them that they are the person the police will need to speak to regarding the theft. Munzy
I agree with calling the police-to help FedEx take you more seriously-ask whoever you speak to to spell out their name-tell them that they are the person the police will need to speak to regarding the theft. Spot-on... I find call centre / customer service employees rarely give a damn about your issue so you have to make it personal for them. Making them the main point of contact for the police investigating the theft should put a rocket up them.
