ferretfiddler
What's the best solution to use in a heated ultrasonic cleaning machine ? I've never used 1 before, so I don't want to give the screaming skull an opportunity to make up a portion for me to try & it remove all facial hair or give her my life ins. early, I would ask scorch (mother in law) what she uses in her caldron, but I ain't got her cave No. ;-)

ferretfiddler
Cheers guys, my eyes are boggling at all the different chemicals & kak that people use, a few of the favourites are the jpl from marlins & Case cleaner, being tight I thought there may be some cheap options ;-). May try the white vinegar at 19p to start & work up from there, budget is 50p lol

Loki
Hi Citric Acid (its food grade stuff!) from a Chemist - works for me. Picked up this tip from Cast Boolits website which has many pages of info on it and other uses for citric acid passivating (protective coating) s-steel etc. Cheers,
activeviii
Only thing with using citric acid or vinegar is you pull the copper out of the case. you will see the case has an orange hue to it. i use to use this but found the cases hardened and cracked quicker than normal. I now use 'sea clean' wait till maplins have a sale on it and buy 2 for 1.

Blunderbust
I used it this afternoon on some cases that I had already tumbled and were ready for primming and thought I would see how it does. I put 3 cap full into the cheepo sonic cleaner that I bought from Aldi and filled the tray with 30 .243 rounds setting it for 5 minutes. I have to say I was impressed with the outside of the shells before they went in but the colour of the water in the cleaner was filthy at the end of the cycle so they must have had a fair bit of muck inside them. I wall be using this combo every time now as a final clean to get the sizing wax and any grime that is left before I reload the cases. Nice to hear good things about sea clean I find if you use hot water from the tap and sea clean on the first 5 to 10min then empty and refill with clean water for 5mins Edited January 28, 2014 by markws80
activeviii
I dont use a vibratory tumbler as all, i have no need. but i do use a whiskey tumbler I use an Aldi sonic cleaner stand a whiskey glass in it and then the case neck down. top the glass with warm water and Sea Clean to cover the cases. you get no air pockets this was. then top the Sonic bath with plain warm water. 2x 4 minute cleans then lift the cases out and reuse the solution for the next batch. the case then get a warm water rinse and then stood on a board with pins to hold the cases up. this time of year i put on the radiator or in the warmer months i put in conservatory to cook out ant water thats left in the cases. SeaClean works well for me. do i get a free 5ltr sample now please.

Redgum
I have tried all of the above plus various other potions off the web but the best results by far have been from Birchwood Casey's case cleaner. You dilute it and can use each batch two or three times depending on how dirty the cases are in side. Before I ultra sound the cases I have a small piece of wooden dowle that fits nicely in the primer pocket (243/308), dunk that in the solution, insert into primer pocket and rotate a couple of times, it loosens the stubborn bits in the pockets before ultra sounding. This gets the insides gleaming to and is brass safe.
