Most of the steel loads I use are from the RSI steel handbook. My favoured load at the moment is this - Federal case, Win 209 primer, 47gn Alliant steel, sam1 wad and 42 grams of steel. The speed is supposedly 1550 fps.

A good hevishot load (I've used heavyweight 13, 3.8mm) - Federal case, Fed 209 primer, 41gn steel powder, TPS1035 wad, filler wads, mylar wrap, 20gn #47 buffer, overshot card and not forgetting 1 3/4 oz hevishot. 1355 fps.

Thanks for info Motty. Assume you are crimping yours. I'm currently doing RTO but will be getting a MEC soon. Maybe that will up my percentages

That 381 recipe , I tried it like you , but in my browning gold it was way over the top! I knocked it down to 40 grains and put it over the chrono and it was round 1500 ftps, and it patterned well, that was crimped and finished with a gaep roll turner. That was in a terror 720 choke.

I kept the 44gr but reduced the shot load to 43gms so although recoil was reduced I may have pushed the velocity up even further. Maybe I'm blowing patterns apart and that may explain some of the difference between mine and Motty's loads. Looking forward to getting my MEC and adjusting these loads.

I kept the shot weight to 46grams, no fillers or packers, really easy to load, bet you are blowing the pattern with that amount of 381.

Is there anyone else who sells cases for 10s other than claygame?

If there isnt i'll pick up some cases when i go up there in a couple of weeks

I will more than likely order some more stuff from the US in the summer, so if you can wait, I could get you some once fired shells with my order.

Anyone done any loading of 2 7/8" in lead or non toxic?

Hi mat, I've got an old alan myers book with plenty of 10g recipes in lead, I'm sure theres some for the 2 7/8 case, isnt the kestrel chambered for 3" cases?...anyway I'll dig it out and have a look for you.

Thanks Dale, i fancy loading a few lighter lead loads to get some practice on the pigeons with it. It is chambered 3 1/2.

It will certainly still kill them loaded full length LOL and it will save the cases from being shortened. Other than that look for a ten to twelve reducer and use std pigeon shells

Don't you think it might be a little overkill though!

I've got data here for 2 7/8" lead from 1 ounce upwards

I have data for light lead loads and use cut down used remington cases, a good source is Alliant powder website, also notice C&G have new 10g cases at 27/8 and fibre wads, (a bit cheaper than 31/2). i use RTO closure. I think the 10g is interesting as you can load weights from 30-60+gm loads You can also load steel in the cut down cases

Hi mat, just had a look through the old myers catalogue, there are 45 recipes for 10g, starting from the 2 5/8ths case with 1 3/8ths oz load up to the 3 1/2 case with 2 1/2 oz...obviousley all the different powders and primers, wads etc....I'll be down the caravan at the end of the week, so I'll get them photocopied for you and you can either collect them or, if you send your address to my phone I'll post them to you, whichever is easiest for you.

atb...Dale.
