chrisjh
Power ranger suits should be enough to put most off riding bikes Envy When a debate/discussion on bikes comes up all you hear is how sensible they all are, never speed or ride like a *****, any wrong doing is down to the cars on the roads. Can't count the amount of times lads I know who ride pass comments on he's a pussy rides like a girl, seen his tyres there only worn in the centre, look at mine ragged to the edge. Technically known as "Chicken Strips" a little harsh but generally true and an indication of inability punters who 50p corners are usually more dangerous because they cant countersteer Nothing worse than a group of bikers screaming round the dales overtaking willy nilly and cutting cars up trying to beat their mates. Treating the roads as a TT track. Or when coming round a bend towards you like a bat out of hell with his knee down and the only part of the bike on his side of the road is the tyres the rest is well over the white line. each to there own nothing wrong with a fruity can, Willy Nilly drives his car very slowly so needs passing, technically its the TT circuit not track, who wouldn't want to ba able to get there knee down or pull a great wheelie Nice when you see people out enjoying the ride and being sensible. absolutely Figgy Edited February 4, 2014 by chrisjh
Catweazle
Car drivers lost in their little metal bubbles are a far bigger danger to bikers than anything else. I have always said that riding a 125cc for a week should be part of the car test, would guarantee that it would make drivers more observant for bikes So true. Anyone who says that bikes aren't dangerous is not using roads shared with car drivers.
old rooster
Sorry, but this is rubbish. Car drivers just tend not to look for anything other than cars. However, I do agree with the proposed 'zebra effect' of the graphics on modern bikes and leathers acting as a kind of camouflage making them more difficult to see. Hence my credo of having single colour bikes and clothing Can you provide a link to your research? Thank you for your dismissive response. The research was done by an award winning motorcycle casualty reduction group that I was involved with, you obviously have a far better knowledge of such things than I so I will withdraw from the discussion. Sorry, not meant to be as dismissive as it sounded. I admit I have had to alert bikers to indicators left on on a couple of occasions, but can't see it as an issue equal to car drivers pulling out without looking properly. Genuinely interested in seeing the research if it is online.
four-wheel-drive
I think that a lot of the problems with people being hurt on motorbikes is for one thing the newer bikes are so fast compared to even old 650 bikes and they weave in and out of the cars when you are driving a car and another car or van comes up behind you you can mostly see them coming and also most cars have blind spots in the rear vew mirrors so it can be simple to not see a bike untill you start to pull out when they are on top of you. I have nothing against bikes but I do think that with all of the traffic on our roads it would be much safer if people want to have very fast bikes they should keep them for track days where is something happens they will not end up under a car or lorry. four-wheel-drive
is riding a motorbike dangerous statistically compared to other forms of road transport YES absolutely, compared to smoking, drinking alcohol above guideline limits, being over weight, being under stress, NO so lets put it into perspective how many motorcyclists are killed each year around 330, how many people are killed around the house over 5000 so spend more time out on your bike and less time doing DIY http://www.rospa.com/homesafety/ http://www.motorcyclenews.com/mcn/news/newsresults/general-news/2013/september/sep2613-deaths-at-lowest-rate/ its all about perception So you are a non smocking non drinking thin keep fit person who only rides a bike to work. Mentalmac
I rode 27,000 miles in a year on mine and my boss rode 81 in a year. Bit of a difference in needs. I used to be a A-class wally: see below But after watching and holding a mate whilst he died I was a little put off. We all used to race to the pub and laugh about our speed and wheelies and dissaproving looks from others etc... then I grew up some. I still do the odd naughty thing, but usually on a track. I had a massive culture shock using one as a commuter doing over 100 miles a day, actually had to change my nice soft race tyres to lovely hard shapeless things but would last more than 2500 miles.
