washerboy
I only have the one gun a cheap Spanish sxs that I use for everything including clays. Haven't shot clays for months but want to start up again on a regular basis. I don't expect to shoot as well with my sxs so I'm.asking is an over and under easier to shoot correctly then a semi auto. Not unless you're shooting trap at a very high level, best advice as always, go try lots of both and then you can make an informed opinion. safc1973
For clays would use o/u for practical reasons - easier to carry around and obvious it is unloaded, dont have to go and pick up spent cases after firing, if doing DTL you dont have cases being flung out at the next person in line. I own both and now hardly ever use the semi.
HDAV
Also for DTL you can have a tighter choke in second barrel as if you miss with the first the clay is further away for 2nd shot! Try a few OU what sort of clays are you looking at? Skeet? Trap? sporting? There is a reason 90% of clay shooters use OU, and why guns like UGB 25 have flopped. My advice is try a few but can't go wrong with an MK38/3800/800 if it fits
washerboy
Usually shoot sporting, totally garbish at skeet.
HDAV
Well for sporting as the presentation is variable so its what you shoot well with, a 28"/30" MC sporter is a common starting point go try a few.
Westley
Try some semi auto's, then keep the SxS for use in the field and you will have a semi which is great for clays, wildfowling and brilliant in a pigeon hide, problem sorted. dr. lecter
skeet is great practice for sporting , just look at gd .
Jega
skeet is great practice for sporting , just look at gd . Couldnt agree more mate ,me and my lad always have a quick round of skeet before a round of sporting .We find it just helps to get your eye in and get the gun swinging a bit more smoothly rather than going into a round of sporting cold as it were. dougall
''dont expect to shoot as well with s/s''.......what have you tried that you shoot better? For clays I find o/u easier/score better but if you stick to one gun and practice I am sure you would improve whatever you used.No idea what the stats are but I would guess 80%+ use o/u for sporting clays, more for Skeet with few semi-autos......I do find recoil over 100 shots is better with o/u,as they are usually heavier than s/s so O/u more comfortable on shoulder too.......
