ukkat
Well it was an early start for 4 of us from Lancashire, on the road at 5am and a 2 hour drive. the weather was not that bad and the forcast said a couple of showers and gusty winds. our Guide positioned us in the relevant fields and i opted to share a hide with a gun that had only shot pigeons a couple of times, mainly i like to have a bit of company and a bit of banter, a trudge up the soggy field was tough going with the clay soil sticking to yer boots every step, to say i grew 4 inches in hight and was puffing like a lab on a hot day would be an understatment! so we set up the hide in the hedge with the wind at our backs blowing directly out in front, when we pulled up there was a nice flock that took off from that exact same spot, jobs a good un. set out the deeks in an off set horse shoe and put the magnet another 15 foot further out to the right. got back into the hide scraped the next 4 inches of clay off my boots and settled in. 3 mins and the first was in the bag, plus a spilt coffee and my half rolled ciggy. with the wind picking up the birds were not a constant flow but the ones that did commit were trying to land in the pattern. i had some cracking shots and so did my companion for the day, with the gusts getting more ferocious the birds flights were becoming more sporadic and less frequent, and more challenging. the final count for our hide was a modist 23 picked and 3 lost. total for the 4 of us was 55. it sure beats my last outing of 3 birds for the day. JDog
A good day out for you. Can I presume that you were shooting over a maize stubble?

caeser
Better to have rain when you're driving home, than when you're sat in the hide in an already muddy field. 23 is decent amount. I'd much rather have been there, than at work. 2 hours drive isn't a problem to me.I can do that quite regularly if the traffic isn't good.
