Browning GTS
Been out today and got another tree rat I don`t normally bother but have kept the tail. My question is how to preserve it, i thought i read a post before but i can not find it. eg do you just hang it up or does it need some sort of treatment? stevethevanman
Spray it with formaldehyde(what they use to preserve dead bodies) which they sometimes use on farms and then store it in a freezer
30-6
What if you dip it in salt? Formalderhyde I beleive is poisinous.
bobt
poisenous? dont think he wants to eat it
stevethevanman
putting it in a sandwich bag then putting it in the freezer might be a good idea, the freezing will stop the bacteria that rot things, i.e. this will preserve it. Bazooka Joe
Browning GTS, you need the middle out of the tail, same way as taking it out of the Fox tail, then salt is as good as anything, I use this all the time keeping stuff for my Flytying. Ferretboy111
I just strip the tail from the bone, and leave it in my cupboard in my ferret shed, this time of year it crisps up and thats sorted, id say salt the end though if you have time, but i can never be bothered. pin
A little birdy told me he keeps his in case there is a bounty on them, which I think is likely if they keep going like they are
Suffolk shooter
Rumour had it that the Grey squirrel cull was going to issue monetary rewards similar to the old days of pigeon control where one cartridge per bird was given in return for the shot bird or some olden day monetary value. Lancs Lad
I just chop em off with a pair of wire snips...stick em in the shed..........leave them to do it naturaly.. I give squizzer tails hackles and pheasant heads to one of the wives colleagues at work. Jay wings etc are just ripped from the body............ Leave him to do what ever he wants to do with em.... Sorted.........................would guess that stripping the bone from the tails is a good idea.

Ferret Master
I just cut them off at the base with my pen knife and leave them in an outbuilding to dry. I should really take a few into school and distribute them among various girls bags when they aren't looking. FM
