snow white
Hi i have just seen rifle twist on 223 but what about barrel length for long range shots.does it make alot of differance between 100/200 yards
kent
Not massively, depends on powder and selected bullet. There was someone in the states who cut one back 1" at a time and posted the chronographed results on a sort of blog a few years back. Remember its used in long barrel pistols and there is reloading data on results. Anything doing upwards of 2800 fps from a .223 is usable to 200 yards, you will likely be about 2 MOA low at said range if you zero at 120-130 yards (depending on factors). 3000 fps with say a 40 grain v-max is going to be a fair bit flatter and should be achievable with quite a radically short barrel, though look up the published pistol data for yourself and see
seeker
As Kent says .... my attention is more focussed on the increased muzzle blast (wot I don't like). heres one if the articles with some measurements .. www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/10/daniel-zimmerman/the-truth-about-barrel-length-muzzle-velocity-and-accuracy/

For a few on here may consider 1500 long range. Lol.

Lol. although I agree with 200 not particularly being a long shot with .223 rem 300+ to 600 yards certainly is long range for the calibre and 1500 yards is a prayer shot
Elmer Fudd 1
20inch barrel and an aimzonic plus moderator gets me out to 600 yards for any body who says that this lowers the velocity and energy at that range, yes it does but when i still have a pill with 250ft/lbs i dont think im too bothered Edited March 21, 2014 by Elmer Fudd
