Dunkield
Saw this earlier when I was out on my bike, it seems a shame to see a half decent deer being whacked by a car and left by roadside.
sako751sg
Get the heed cut off and boiled and get it on to eBay.The last two i have done made 72 and 90 quid which is not bad for roadkill. It actually looks half decent and if you get measured and it makes a medal then the cash is more. To get it scored it doesnt have to be shot. Many years on the roe list there are ones that have been found dead and rta that have been scored. carpentermark
Am i right in thinking as far as the law is concerned you are not allowed to take anything if you have ran in over?

You are but it dosnt stop you stopping to check its dead and ringing a vet etc if it isn't. Edited March 30, 2014 by rimotu66

sako751sg
I see what you are saying but its the deer getting judged on what it grew and not the stalker on what he culled is another way of looking at it.
carpentermark
You are but it dosnt stop you stopping to check its dead and ringing a vet etc if it isn't. Why would you ring a vet? Knife, gun or tyre iron me thinks!
welsh1
Why would you ring a vet? Knife, gun or tyre iron me thinks! You have to very confident that you will dispatch a deer quickly and with as little distress as possible, add the fact that a wounded deer will lash out and antlers can injure maim or kill. Sometimes a vet is a good idea, and especially if joe public is watching.
Thunderbird
But the next person along can take it. Isn't that an urban myth though? People often say 'oh yes if you hit a pheasant it's the property of the car behind' (it was even on QI I think, but not an official question), bit is it true? That's worth knowing. I shot one a couple of years ago with a wonderful head on which I saved, but don't know what to do with it. It still needs cleaning but may be worth it. Mate also found a fresh carcass in the wood this weekend with a nice head which he has removed. As an aside we have set up trail cam as it looks like a Timber wolf has been at it! Wouldn't the dead animal belong to whoever's land it was on?,if the grass verge it technically would belong to the local authority,if on the road it would be the highways agency. As far as I'm concerned anyone on this site should be confident and competent enough to dispatch a wounded deer especially a Roe!As for ringing the vet..... The thought of waiting poss 45 mins for him to arrive whilst watching the poor deer thrashing about on the floor with broken limbs and internal injuries, i think i would be physically sick! As for distress....... It has already been smashed by a car, it is in as much distress as its ever going to be! So (with a Roe) drag it behind a hedge and put it out of its misery! welsh1
Good point. Mind you, if there'a nobody around there's nobody around... My thoughts as well,my only concern is i would not have observed the deer in the wild as you would if shooting it,and would not know if there was something wrong with it(a very slim chance but it would play at the back of my mind)

Don't get me wrong,if you think you are capable then you should dispatch it,just some who have not dispatched an animal that big may get it wrong and cause further suffering.usually the police will have call out numbers for stalkers in the area who are close by. leadbreakfast
Thought this was one of them road kill on the bike thread again, mind you it was funny but can't remember what he did with it when he got it home.
activeviii
That is a nice head. i would have harvested it. sent for scoring but put it in as a RTA. Shame to leave it for someone else. even if you use to make a nice walking stick topper. the ones sold on ebay, was that just boiled out and bleached or mounted as well? Dunkield
Strange thing here, looking at the Buck laid there I really felt sad for him yet if I shoot one I have no real emotion at all , anyone feel similar ? Yes. Same. I think the difference is the shot is premeditated whereas this is more just a random killing? There are lots of deer round these parts, and as a result quite few road kills. I killed a roe doe on the road early one morning and remember feeling pretty sad about that.
camokid
i see it as a wicked waist and a real shame to end his life for no reason... i would have 100% took that head if nothing more that making sticks or just to do him justice
