NorfolkBoy
Nice one..... Was that a big name co. or a small independent broker?
Lord Geordie
Whilst i am happy you managed to get sorted out i am ALSO very curious as to why your Daughter couldn't tax the car OR is she driving a big car on third party cover from another certificate hence needing YOU to get the Tax for her? I am very curious? LG

JOHNNY_RAZOR
Yeah those companys can be cruel. It's a shame you can't stick it to the man but going without insurance is a sin. I use a classic car insurer for my cortina, and even with the mods it's cheaper than a high street broker.
pin
Are you telling us thats how the chavs do it H? Chavs generally don't bother with such complications as insurance, tax, mot or a license - come to think of it they normally don't bother asking permission of the owner to drive the car! Cheeky wee scamps!
Lord Geordie
Thats one of the reaons i went for a Kit Car. The insurance "FULLY COMP" is only £119 Beats the £290 for the Cavalier Classic OR kit is a cheaper alternative for Youngsters to climb the ladder upon LG

henry d
Whilst i am happy you managed to get sorted out i am ALSO very curious as to why your Daughter couldn't tax the car OR is she driving a big car on third party cover from another certificate hence needing YOU to get the Tax for her? My daughter has only a provisional licence and at the time we bought her car,had just passed her BA and we didn`t think she would be going for her Masters, however she did. She can`t get it insured for less than £800 and it will be no use to her as she can`t drive it so we are getting it taxed so we can sell it and not have it sitting gathering dust.I can`t get it taxed on my insurance for my Vitara even though I would be covered 3rd party in it. It was through Admiral for those that asked.

I only have a years no claims and I have got a 2.2 litre Honda Prelude Vtec (oh and its a japanese import!) I pay around 1grand TPFT (i know this is still expensive but it isn't considering my age and the car!

My Nephew is in the RAF and his first car was a Astra 1.4 and it would be kept on Camp when not being used. They wanted £3000 It's a Disgrace to take the urine like that. Sure lots have accidents in their first years BUT give them the chance to prove the insurers wrong. Charge a nominal fee say £700 for the first year. IF in the first year they have an accident due to poor driving standards then YES put their premium up. But to give them a pee take premium like £3000 should be illegal IMO No wonder there are so many kids who drive now with no insurance. The insurers aren't helping matters. naddan28
I know LG but what can we do? I actually have had quotes of around £3-4.5k for that car as well! I agree with the whole driving standards thing, and if you look at the types of people at that age who have accidents then charge them more! Apparently 1 in 5 are meant to have accidents in their first year driving out of me and my 20 friends, all who went to good schools and do sensible degrees at decent uni's not tearing around council estates in saxo's with loud garage beats blasting out. 1 in 20 has had any form of accident, one slight knock parking and another when some old codger come round a corner and drove into him! This is 5% as opposed to the 20% insurers tell us! Anyone reckon their attitude and upbringing might have something to do with it? Another big woe, is that our entire insurance is dependant on everyone else! If someone drives into me because they were doing 80 down a country lane at night and swerved onto my side of the road, my premium would probably double the following year! Its shocking that insurers dont distinguish between an accident thats the drivers thought on one which was completely unavoidable due to some other moron! This problem faces us all i know, but for youngsters with already high premiums, its incredibly dangerous!
