berettadevon
Looking for some advise from you lot!!! Ive been asked to knock out a large number or Rabbits on a permission i have but i only have a 12g shotgun. I now that after one shot lots of them will be running for there burrow holes but what i need to know is what cartridge load should i use and what would you call a safe clean kill maximum range?????????? Im thinking 40 yards with maybe 28g or 30g of 6s??? or maybe 5s???

berettadevon
5s for me up to 40 yards colin 5s do sound abit more humane to be honest, 1/4 and 1/2 chokes??? or tighten them up a little???
GingerCat
Quarter and half chokes 6 or 5 shot Will be fine. Don't go bigger than 5 but you can stretch it 5.yards or so if your confident, I do and don't get runners.
Cannon
28gm 7.5's for anything within 25 yards. Never had a runner yet. 30 or 32 gm 6's up to 35 yards. Same again never had a runner. Put through 1/2 choke.
kent
18 grm of no.7 will kill just fine from the .410 at 30 yards ( in deed it will do hares just fine and no I wouldn't have believed that 2 years ago). Rabbits do not need a lot of choke or a heavy load. I have some 24 grm 7 to test here in the 12 and I cannot see them doing any better than fine as I mostly use 28 grm of 7 1/2 and very open chokes. My longest Rabbit with a shotgun dropped to a steel clay load of number 5. In order to take a better bag in one go stink them out a day before first then block the holes up with rolls of newspaper once they are out. Then shoot it, good steady flushing dogs will improve the bag no end
NickB65
I use 32g no 6 up to 40 yards and that works well.
HDAV
Sounds like a job for a rimfire....... Cheaper to feed, quieter, more range (suitable back stop) Could try subsonics in the shotty but not really the tool for the job.... Twistedsanity
Buy a cheap air rifle , head shots at 40yrds but unlike the 12g there will be something left to eat afterwards and you won't send everything within 1/2 mile running for cover everytime you pull the trigger
