I bought an 'upright' one from LIDL 18 months ago Three year warranty and spare parts available after warranty. Good quality and plenty of power. It cost around £80.

i hate to say it but the non food items i have bought from lidle's in the past have been excellent....that includes laptops as well !!

I just got one of these £99 at Halfords as I have got some green mold growing on my house outside walls and I just wonderd if it did go wrong at some time people have said that parts are available for them but where would you get them from.

We have three or four Karcher Pressure Washers - two industrial and one or two domestic - one of the industrials heats water as well.

All have been truly excellent - we get them serviced from time to time by local agents Consumable Products in Newtownards Northern Ireland and are very happy indeed - they are between 3 & 10 years old and have been very reliable.

I spent a good deal of time researching this two weeks ago and on the back of it bought a Nilfisk Centennial from Homebase when they had the 15% off bank holiday weekend. IMO it would still be a reasonable deal at £85 without the 15% discount when compared to what else is available. It has a very high flow-rate and power on paper compared to the other ones in the same price bracket, and it comes bundled with a patio cleaning brush which I think is around £25 and not included with other models/brands, along with a selection of other fittings, and it has longer than average leads. Certainly worked an absolute treat at clearing up a sizeable area of concrete of moss, muck and grass. Very very pleased with it, and looking forward to deploying it for more work this weekend.

Will it run off a butt?

No it's not that one, it is a model or two up from that. It is comparable to the C120 I think, as it is 1.65kW rather than 1.4kW of the 110, hose 8m and 120bar pressure vs 110bar and 5m. I've not tried running it from a water butt but I am pretty sure that it does

I've got through a few karchers, as has my dad.

The last ones I got replaced under warranty, then when that broke I got a refund and bought one from lidl or aldi for about £35... I bought it thinking that I'd just bin it when it broke. It's got a 3 year warranty, 2 years in its still going strong! That's about 1 year and 10 months longer than the karcher!

I was hopping to get a cheap one like that but could not see any on offer in my area so I went with the Halfords Karcher one I was going to get the small one with no wheels at £80 but when I looked at them I thought for an extra £20 it looked bigger so may last longer but it has probably got the same insides as the cheaper one I had a little go on it last night and it is doing the job that I got it for so I am happy.

The nilfisk recommended by Teal looks good but appears to be out of stock. The places that still have it, have it at silly prices!

I think Teal has some kind of "access all areas" pass to this sort of gear and us less mortals can only look on in wonder

The fact that they've got a whole section dedicated to Karcher probably tells its own story but they're cheap enough.

I think that I would prefer to pay £90 for something that I can get parts for if it should go wrong than £60 for one that ends up in the dustbin if it has a problem.

That's an old fashioned way of thinking unfortunately.... I would rather buy top quality used and know I get parts/service than el cheapo brand new........but that's me...

Took my Karcher apart last week to replace a part that got blown in the frost. I reckon you could build your own easily enough. There's not much to them. The shoddiest part was the cheap and nasty and needlessly complicated body and the way everything's fixed together. With some decent quality donor internals I reckon I could build one myself which would be solid and nicer to use.

I don't doubt you, perhaps there is a massive market there. I know I wouldn't hesitate to buy a solid no nonsense square one that's sold on ease of maintanence and performance instead of fancy names and bright colour schemes, put me down for one just in case. :)

I think that if I had seen this before I got my new one as it will not get used that often by me I would have got one of these Referbished ones I would think that they are only ones that have been sent back under guaranty with miner problems so the just give the people a new one and repair and sell the others off cheap.

Thanks hdav, just ordered one.

Hi Medic - I'd be interested to hear how you are getting on, was using mine yesterday with great results again. I hope you are enjoying yours. I haven't use the full power fitting on the car as a bit worried about damaging paint, but was using it to clear moss/dirt etc off an area of concrete and very happy, I use the less powerful end fitting to go over the car. The only thing I would say is the hose coiler on the machine - I haven't tried to use it, but I have read online that it's a bit tricky to wind up, I just gather the hose and carry it with the machine. I understand from another site you can get a replacement hose which is better than the standard one that comes with the machine: http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=305573 but to be honest the hose hasn't caused me any bother yet.

Hi Teal, I cleaned my patio and decking and was quite impressed for a small washer. I'm used to using a powerful commercial one on the farm, but this little one is great for the jobs I need it for. I was really impressed with the patio cleaner attachment although got back ache quite quickly. I feel it could be better with a short extension on the handle. I've not had chance to was the car with it yet though.

The hose isn't too bad, I can see what people mean when they say it tangles, but I had no trouble wrapping it up.

So far I'm quite pleased with, so thank you for the heads up!
