the enigma
I've found a second hand rifle locally that I'm interested in. The right calibre, good condition, in budget....................... but it's a left hander............ and I'm right handed. There seems to be quite a few lefties who shoot with right handed rifles, is there any reason why it wouldn't work the other way round. Dougy
Not quite perfect then, Just think it could be yours for some time, will you be comfortable with it If it were me no i would keep looking, its your decision, but your spending money on something that isnt quite perfect will it hurt to wait
jay222
What rifle is it? Is it hard enough to find that model and calibre combo to be worth the hassle of getting used to a left hander. One of my shooting mates is left handed but shoots right handed rifles so as you say it can be done but it's not something if choose to do

cjm
Im a lefty and always shoot right handed rifles never had a problem in doing so. Ive never once fired a left handed one which might have helped me as i know no different from using right handed ones. Maybe you would notice it more switching from one to the other tho? Mentalmac
I would suggest that you would possibly be better looking for a right hander and travelling to collect. My friend shoots left handed (I am also left handed, but shoot, play tennis, golf anything such like - right handed), and he will sometimes take a shot on my HMR if we are both out and he is fine from prone on a bi pod, but struggles with standing/kneeling shots with it compared to his one. Harnser
Don't entertain a left hander ,you will regret it . I bet if you put a wanted add on here you will get what you want . Where you will find it the most difficult with a left hander is a quick rack of the bolt to load another round after you have shot your deer or what ever .you will be all fingers and thumbs and you will have lift your head to far off the stock to get a fast second shot in if needed . Harry Callahan
Im same as CJM and Mentalmac being a leftie who shoots a right handed gun - like Mentalmac i also play many other sports right handed and my right eye is the dominant one. I use my rifle on my left shoulder sometimes and get on fine but i wouldnt want to swap it in for a left shooter - think of it like writing - its a disciplin which youve naturally learned and mastered over your life, which your now considering relearning from scratch again as an adult..... the enigma
Thanks lads. I suppose it is different for a leftie shooting right hand rifles all the time, cycling the bolt with your "wrong" hand would come naturally to you in time but I'd be switching from a right handed rifle to this left handed one, resulting in a faffing match. Just going to have to be patient.
Harry Callahan
Good decision mate. Its all the stuff you take for granted like squeezing the trigger.... youl know what i mean if youve ever tried left foot braking, and put yourself through the windscreen! The Essex Hunter
I have all ways shot RH rifles from year dot....as the .22 dad had was RH. So I brought the same hand in .243.... Both my 325 and 425 Browning's have a 3/16th left cast... Shooting is mainly in the mind! Very small margins in rifle shooting so I would say wait and find the same gun in a cast to suite you....
