Penelope
I did the very same in January, 3 greys all in a line for one shot. There were no more for the second barrel. You should try to achieve what my dad did years ago on the solway with the s/s, 3 geese for 1 shot! He was so shocked he missed with the 2nd! edenman
I suppose it's all down to personal preference I use a semi auto on the foreshore but if there was any affordable 3.5" over and under shotgun about that's what I'd use. My main complaint with s/a shotguns is the time it takes to swap from duck to goose cartridges and vice versa. Also the distance they spit the shells out, which doesn't make for easy finding in the dark. Like I said it's all down to individual preference. hoggysreels
Kent ... you posted you use the sbs 12 bore 3" chamber and you use steel, having had the chokes opened ... and if lm.following it correctly, its not a steel proof sbs .. lm guessing its nitro proof .. when you say you use steel with the sbs, are they standard steel or super steel ... lm only asking out of interest ... cheers
wildfowler.250
I use the 12 because the gamebore steel is cheap enough and works well. Have a basque 10 sbs which I'll probably sell. I like it, just can't be bothered reloading for it. You should try to achieve what my dad did years ago on the solway with the s/s, 3 geese for 1 shot! He was so shocked he missed with the 2nd! I've had 5 drop with two shots. Didn't dare fire a 3rd shell

Berettacocker
Autos do jam, but get bit of sand/ mud on breech face or extractors and you won't even close an o/u or s/s . Plus they're lighter and a lot are chambered 3 1/2 steel proofed. Fowling piece are beautiful but autos are more practical

marsh man
Since I bought my first gun in 1960 which was a single 12 bore from Darlows in Norwich I have had more or less all the different bore guns apart from a shoulder four bore , since 1968 we couldn't use anything bigger than a 8 bore once Breydon Water was made into a nature reserve , so there wasn't any point in getting any thing bigger than a 8 bore, for a number of years I done most of my fowling with a Midland Gun Company 3inch which made my under lever Damascus 10bore obsolete as using magnum cartridges for the 12 were better than the ole ones I used for the 10. Since I packed up shooting on the foreshore, I now only shoot on the marshes the other side of the river wall and my gun now is a B S A 12bore s x s which I use all the year round for every thing.
