Gimlet
Seems the distrust in the EU is not restricted to the UK ,in France it looks like the far right FN is going to be the leading party, and hollande has called an emergency meeting of the govt tomorrow, bet all of a sudden free movement of workers is on the agenda. KW You can't tell with the French. A couple of years ago they thought communism was the answer when they voted for Hollande. They like to change their politicians like they change their under garments - some might say rather more frequently. More telling is the success of anti-EU parties in Germany. Small gains, but significant. I think the important thing to bear in mind is that different countries have different reasons for resenting the EU. What this points to is that the issue they have in common is opposition of political union. The dismantling of national identities, national sovereignty and national borders will never bring harmony, quite the opposite. When will ideologue politicians get it? People don't want to be lab rats in political experiments.
poontang
When will ideologue politicians get it? I don't think they'll ever get it. I just watched Chuka Umunna interviewed, he said the UKIP vote was nothing about Europe but a vote against the economy!! What ******* planet are these people on? Lampwick
I bet there are a few planning meetings going on right now! "Ok what do we need to tell them to vote for us?" "Yes and if we forget it in The Manifesto" "Who's going to front the questions re UKIP?" "How can we spin victory into this then?" BOOM! Ps Cameron just said he gets it! People are disillusioned with Europe and want change! Youve almost got it buddy! EXCEPT we want out!! That includes you!

ditchman
I think it will be a bit closer than expected. UKIP and Labour will be vying for the top spot and hopefully the Limp Dumps will be wiped out. What will be interesting however are the results from some of the other EU countries. With a rise in Eurosceptic parties across the continent the results from France, Holland, Italy, Hungary, Portugal and Greece will be a major concern to the EUSSR commissars. It's been predicted that Eurosceptics could hold anything between a quarter and a third of all MEP's after the election. Now that would be interesting. Edit to say I reckon UKIP will return 22 MEP's. good guess..............lottery numbers please....PM me !
poontang
good guess..............lottery numbers please....PM me ! Funnily enough I was going to put 24, but I double hit the no.2 on my keyboard and couldn't be bothered to edit the post!! Some great results last night, and to get one MEP in Scotland will have Salmond choking on his porridge this morning.

four-wheel-drive
The only problem is when it comes to the next genaral election as a UKIP voter I think UKIP will split the conservative vote and Labour will win the election so nothing will change. There is one thing that could save us if the Scots vote to leave us then all of there labour MPs will go so the Conservativs will be back in charge in England. ditchman
it is just beyond belief that the 2 main (ex) parties are spouting off victory.........and DC...still dosnt get it .........whatever has happened isnt going to make any difference,...and the electorate will become more hardened and firm up to UKIP...as the 2 main parties still fudge the issue....... PS Marine le Pen is a strapping looking doxy eh......i bet she would pick yer empty cases up ! Edited May 26, 2014 by ditchman
kdubya
I notice that no one is now calling UKIP voters racists bigots with a lower than average intelligence, will this shortly manifest into us actually being allowed to stop having to walk on eggshells when we discuss issues such as immigration and religion? not holding my breath but perhaps . Lampwick
Should be good for a new musical ? How do you spin an election like the Euros? Pick the party; A vote for UKIP is a vote for Labour! That should make them cower! They are just a bunch of racists! That should keep their heads down! Yes but they will return to their normal voting pattern at The General Election! Won't they? It's a protest vote! Isn't it? We won! Didn't we? I just saw on BBC The French government will consider reducing taxes for middle and lower classes! No knee jerk reaction there then. When is ours coming? BOOM!
four-wheel-drive
This whole thing is doing my head in we have Labour Conservativs and Librals talking on the TV and radio saying that people are voting UKIP as a protest vote and it is about the econamy and MPs behaving badly they just do not get it they are so brainwashed in to thinking that we must be in the EU or the world as we now it will end how do we get them to understand (WE DO NOT WANT TO BE RUN BY PEOPLE IN OTHER COUNTRIES WE DO NOT WANT TO HAVE PEOPLE FLOODING IN TO OUR COUNTRY WE JUST WANT TO RUN OUR OWN COUNTRY )
overandunder2012
my guess is labour at some point will u turn and offer the in out what else can they do to get all their voters back, that would probably put them in a much stronger position for the ge Edited May 26, 2014 by overandunder2012

Ours wont, ours will be more denial of what is really happening, and their ever present push for diversity, inclusion, and multiculturalism will go on. Hollande panicked on the post vote polls, he called a meeting first thing,he knows he needs to win back the middle ground tax may be a good way of doing it, will ours do they same nope not likely. four-wheel-drive
The thing that realy makes me laugh is the say that we live in a democracy but what does that infact mean we get to vote once every five years for one of three or four partys all of which say mostly the same thing and people fought wars for that I am begining to think that we would be better off with a dictater in charge. You can vote for anyone who puts themselves up for election,it is just more people vote for the established parties. So if you want to stand for election then go for it,that is what a democracy is about, anyone can stand and anyone can vote for them. If you think a dictatorship is the way to go have a look at North Korea,do you really think it is better than our system?

There'll be another election within 18 months by which time the Tories will have ousted Cameron. Ukip and the real Conservatives please step forward; trendy Cameroons, goodbye, go and get a proper job. Neither of the front runner parties is going to change leader this close to a general election. The Lib/Dems might but who cares. Don't be scared of splitting the Tory vote. Think of it as lancing a boil. Might make your eyes water briefly but you'll feel a whole lot better for it in the long run. The Newark by-election result could, depending on the result, put a huge amount of pressure on Cameron. A lot of Conservatives will be worrying about their seats if Roger Helmer mounts a serious challenge in such a Tory stronghold.
