Good value. you can carry 7 people but you will NOT get 3 child seats across the middle row. I've a Galaxy now and love it.
Gordon R
I had a 2.2SRi auto a few years ago. One daughter in law has one, the other has two - for their Children's nurseries. Our in-laws have one - they are all 1.6 manuals. Not flying machines, but spritely enough and economy is okay. 1.8 auto - you will need to research your MPG.. No complaints from any of them, including me. Few parts ever needed, but cheap and plentiful. Lot of car for the money. Not bad in a crash - I had to be cut out of mine. Redgum
My wife has the 2lt diesel elegance, it gets hammered by the children, been all over France and Ireland and never let us down, done over 120,000now. Only fault is occasionally the egr valve gets gummed up and it goes on limp home mode, this only happens as its used on short journeys and needs a bit of a trashing from time to time. Its not hard to take out the valve and give it a bit of a clean. Pretty good on fuel too.

IEH
We've had a 1.8 manual for the last 12 years from new. Only big bill in that time was for a water leak. Just in the process of buying another.

Gordon R
Galaxy costs a whole lot more and not without its own faults.

Dominicrobed
I have had a 1.8 auto for 5 years no problems but just expect 27- 34 mph dependant on what journey Deershooter It would mostly be motorway driving and we normally only do about 60. But that's a bit crappy with mpg

But that's a bit crappy with mpg You might creep up to 37 on the motorway it's the Automatic box that keeps the fuel economy down pluss it's a big car for an 1800 engine however mine seems to have plenty of power Deershooter

Look ok not great condition , started engine and gave it some revs big cloud of white smoke so still looking. Think I will try and find a 1.

Mentalmac
Went to have a look at the car. Look ok not great condition , started engine and gave it some revs big cloud of white smoke so still looking. Think I will try and find a 1.6 I found this problem looking at a lot of family cars. Vafira I looked at had been well bruised by kids (Not a big deal but the price was over the top) A galaxy I looked at the speedo didn't work and the garage told me that they would get an aftermarket one and glue it on! hahaha. Vafira's are great cars if you don't want to put 3 child seats on middle row safely.
DaveyTed
I've been reading this thread with interest as I bought a new 1.6 petrol just over a year ago. No problems so far in 10,000 miles. Excellent value for money paid with plenty of room although typical gutless petrol engine would struggle with a full load. Main problem, we find, is poor visibilty due to thick pillars eitherside of windscreen and at front of doors; very easy to miss cars approaching at an angle like when joining a roundabout. Most of the road tests pick up on this but silly me took no notice. Also the indicator stalk has a mind of its own.
Gordon R
Pillars, in common with quite a few cars, are chunky, but they are a whole lot safer, in a crash.

Agreed but not much consolation if you hit something unsighted because of the chunky pillars. Th Zafira pillars are a lot chunkier than most. Dominicrobed
Just like to say thank you all for your help. By chance on Monday I rang a local garage guy I know and trust to see what cars he had and he said he had a zafira coming in the next day ( today ) went to have a look today it is an 04 1.6. 78000 on the clock , not dents not even any parking dents. Full service history last service being sep so will need another service this coming sep and a cam belt water pump change 10000 miles ago. Test drove it and drives very well ( but would not want 7 adults in it ) Spoken to my wife and we will put a deposit down tomorrow and hope to pick up Thursday once insurance is sorted . Should be able to get all my shooting gear in the boot as well Cheers
