SNS
Hi all -my spare has gone missing for the 2nd time - worryingly I think from outside the house last night. Question is - am I just unlucky / being targeted or is it fairly common for these things to be stolen ? I asked the Police when I reported it but there were not particularly forthcoming with info Many thanks in advance......
Mungler
If you live on a busy road you'll get a look and anybody who needs / wants will help themselves. Indeed of the lots of people I know with Rangies, I can't think of one who hasn't had their spare wheel nicked or all of their wheels nicked. SNS
It's a no- through road single track. With no street lights. So rather makes me think it's not someone on the off chance !

norfolk dumpling
Big problem with these and newer disco's - at retal company where I work we've had several nicked and it's £750 a pop. Poor design on the part of JLR or perhaps they enjoy the benefits of supplying replacements??
aris
How are they fixed to the car? Im surprised you can't get the equivalent to a locking wheel nut for the spare.
Arley
There held by a cable. When my winch failed the mechanic managed to take the spare wheel off in about 5 minutes?
drnobsac
talking of winches thats another favourite to go missing, ive had 2 stolen from my recovery truck, welded the mounting bolts in place now .Might be worth all you winch owners checking the nick ability of yours,im afraid in this day and age if you cant hide it...weld it down . crossy 666
I had 2 go missing of my L200 so I have now replaced them with a rusty second hand steel wheel with a half bald tyer on it and that seems have worked so far.
saufboy
If you go to the disco3 forum www.disco3.co.uk there is a guy on there called Ray and his user name is RLD, he make a anti theft device which goes on the winch end and goes up into the wheel when winched ( bit like a round metal plate) makes them unstealable, about £80 - £90 delivered, first thing I bought for my discovery when I got it...! malkiserow
get it locked or they will always get nicked. It will never stop. Mine was gone under CCTV in a station car park.
saufboy
Problem is they just cut the winch cable so not only are you looking at the cost of a new wheel and tyre but a winch cable too..?
keg
Same problem with Peugot 205 GTIs way back, could nick them with bolt cutters.
station
So I take it the wheels and tyres stolen are full size? Can you not get a scrawny space saver type - probably no one would want to nick one of them.
Cannon
Get a tracking device installed in the spare and wait until it goes missing again. Or else you could stick a very small bit of black tar on the side of the tyre, let it set then stick a few bits of grey duck/duct tape over the tar. Anyone wanting to steal it might pull the tape off and think the tar was a bodged sidewall repair job. Might work.
saufboy
So I take it the wheels and tyres stolen are full size? Can you not get a scrawny space saver type - probably no one would want to nick one of them. It's only the full sized alloy wheels off the HSE that's gets stolen, I bought this wheel protector and when it was in land rovers for a service they rang me and asked where I got it from, they now have some in stock to offer victims that come in asking for a new winch and wheel..! Del T
Same problem with Peugot 205 GTIs way back, could nick them with bolt cutters. A screwdriver could bend the bracket, no need for bolt cutters!
