Tim85
TopGunners and I went for a shine last night hoping to get me my first fox with my recently gained 243! - Top night in the end with me getting a hatrick and Dave getting a couple too! We went for a mooch with the rimmy's first and had a couple of rabbits each whilst we waited for the dark to come. Just as it started to get dark we pulled in the field that is known to have a number of Fox's about and the land owner wants them gone due to their livestock and various poults. We started the calls up as it was getting dark and after about half an hour we were startled by a cheeky ****** about 50 yards away, he must have stalked across the field between the sheep but once he was spotted he decided to disappear in to the fence line! We thought he was long gone and then next thing we knew he was back in the middle of the field, Dave got on to it sharpish and bang, first fox down! After about 10 min's more of calling up popped the next candidate for an interview with a 243..... My first opportunity at a fox.... the heart kicked in with a boom, thumping away. Dave had it in the beam; I took aim, controlled my breathing and squeezed the trigger. Bang side on shot in the engine room, 75 odd yards out I think and a nice clean kill! One happy chap I was! We were just about to head off and then I thought I saw a couple of eyes shining out, I quickly loaded up but whatever I saw had gone.... however we then noticed old Charlie mooching on a big pile of cow *$%£, about 120 yards i would have though, but he wasn't playing ball and ignored the calls. At first I was not sure about the shot but then he dropped down the pile to give a good back drop.... Bang my 2nd fox! Fair size dog fox. These are the fox's we had at the first farm. After this we moved on to another farm close by, as soon as we pulled in Charlie was on the track, soon jumping in to the bushes and making off across the field to our right, we managed to get in to position about 50 meters up the track and there he was making his way across the field, a quick couple of squeaks and Bang i had my 3rd! What a night!!!! But it didnt finish there. We made our way up the very steep hills around the farm and set up for a short period of calling as it was just about 1am and I had work! Just as I was about to pull of Dave suddenly jumped throwing the lamp at me to shine for him, the little *** was almost at the back of the truck, but soon decided that he was best off heading back up the hill, a couple of mins of trying to get a clean shot and bang 5th fox down! A great night was had, my first 3 fox's all clean kills and the last one was hit devastatingly hard! No pics of the last two as batteries were too low and we needed to get moving. To be honest my last one was pretty horrible with more of the insides outside than anything! Thanks Topgunners, Top night! spandit
It's curious - most of my permissions want the foxes left as they help with the rabbit problem. Good shooting, though (although .243 at 75 yards seems a bit overkill!)

Right tool for the job mate , no overkill dead is dead, if he was shooting it with an air rifle at 75yds then you can moan, Tim85, well done mate a nice bit of nicely executed foxing , Atb Flynny
