NickB65
Well the teachers are on strike so I have to have the kids but the ex-wife was free this afternoon so I had them in the morning and she had them in the afternoon leaving me free for a little Pigeon shooting. Well it was over cast, slight wind and raining but this would not stop me. The wheat is coming good so the pigeons are close to the farm so i set-up at the back of the barns at the end of the hedge. The flight lines converge at this point and one goes to the tall trees while the either heads towards the vicarage. I popped a few decoys under the Walnut tree as this is often a witty tree and had a bouncer a little way in the field to try and draw them in. I set-up with a simple net screen and hege as a back drop and I could swing either side of the hedge through a gap..... Now I have been having some problems with the shotgun with consistency and I have tried everything but to no avail..... but now I think I have found my mojo. Back to basics making sure mount good, both eyes open and just concentrate on the target. First bird in was a simple 20 yards right to left and I dropped it with one shot. Twenty minutes later the second came in straight at me not too high and it dropped with one shot. Nothing for a while so I moved the decoys a little but the rain seemed to be keeping them put. Once the rain stopped the wind got up and then were n the air moving around a little more. Number three was a right to left high and it dropped with one..... and so it went on. Even when my brother in-law true farmer came over to watch this did not seem to put me off.... solid gun mount, both eyes open, concentrate and shoot..... every bird dropped with the first shot....... When I started to get cocky ergo did not make sure I had a solid gun mount... I missed. All I have to do now is practise, practise Practise..... With my MOJO inlace I shot 38 pigeons for 45 shots which included two doubles........ me is one happy chappy.

NickB65
Thank you but believe me the ratios have been not as good - my left eye is becoming more dominent due to age, a lot of rifle shooting so I started to close my left eye or squint it out which according to the trainers and power that be is the right thing to do. Or is it? When you throw a ball do you close or squint one eye yet you still throw it where you need it to go - when you cast a fly line do you close one eye? So why do so when shooting? Read a great article on-line by SHOOTING UK which featured NICK PENN (http://www.shootinguk.co.uk/shooting/instruction/have-you-tried-this-clay-shooting-method-15475 ) which basically says the gun mount, weight and BOTH EYE OPEN is the right way. Have to say wight he right gun mount, feet and weight position and both eyes open it seems to have done the trick for me. Still early days but we shall see...... JDog
A good report as usual and excellent results. I am the last person to attempt to teach you how to shoot but I do know that the more you think about it the worse it gets. I loved the bit about the pigeons heading for the 'witty' tree. If I had one near me when I was shooting they would certainly be able to sit up and laugh at my shooting.

pigeon controller
Great report and result, 99% of shooting is in you head. I love fast crossing shots that you shoot instinctively and do not mess your mind with lead etc. I shoot with my left eye just closed as I shoot but both open when the bird approaches it works for me . I've said it before but when you are a kid and throwing snowballs you automatically give lead as your mate is running away, so it's in your mind from when we were throwing pointy sticks at mamoths

Too many shooters get obsessed with chokes, cartridges, loads, shot sizes, gun makes, etc., etc., trying to improve their shooting, until they get so confused nothing is going to work. I understand golfers have the same problem.
