Guest cookoff013
guys i been tinkering..... 12-70mm cx2000 13.2 grains ba10 (thirteen point two) 2x 4mm powdercard 20mm fibre wad 28 gram lead shot (#6) 290 m/s @2.5m 412 bar 8.00 n/s this shell should recoil less than the 32g vectan load and the figures say it does by more than 10% (or thereabouts) i suspect that this ba10 subsonic could have 0.5 grain more powder to gain alittle speed, and i mean alittle. this load has been used by another shooter....... says its ok and clean ! edit in red. there you go you hushers go out there and make no noise. Floating Chamber
Reminds me of the 'old' Lyalvale Magnasonic fibre. It used 12 grains of Neodisc 24 and cycled my Winchester Model 59. Try it in 65mm with one card wad.
Guest cookoff013
Reminds me of the 'old' Lyalvale Magnasonic fibre. It used 12 grains of Neodisc 24 and cycled my Winchester Model 59. Try it in 65mm with one card wad. i put this in a 70mm case because most reloaders are 70mm, and the 70mm length is great for ejecting out of pumps and whatnot. although i think it will struggle with ejection from an automatic. this uses the same "average" components the 4mm card and the 20mm wad. i thought this would be good for a low noise / low recoil application. these cost approx £200/k saving anywhere between £20 to £10 over factory 1 oz offerings. i beat factory this time. but its only a specialised application. if i recollect, (i made these a year ago,) they reloaded very nice, everything fit quite well, it crimped beautifully. here is some additional information http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/261288-proof-or-pudding/ Ba10 powder MEC bushing / Grain #21 - (12.6) guesstimated #22 -13.2 #23 - (13.8) guesstimated #24 -14.6 #25 -15.2 #26 -15.8 #27 - (16.4) guesstimated #28 -17.0 #29 -17.6 #30 - 18.2 #31 - (18.7) guesstimated #32 -19.2 so i weight the powder when i did the test loads, but actual printing out of lots of ammunition i`ll be using... bushing mec#22. there is a 28mm wad length with only a 20mm compression section.. i cant wait to try these out either ! roughshooter
I have used this load with 13.8gr BA10 (Mec bushing 23), 70mm case, 209 primer, 4mm nitro card, 2 x 12mm fibres, 28g lead, 6 point crimp and found it very effective. Just as quiet as Eley Hushpowers but a bit more knock down power Well done Alex

roughshooter
I am just working on a 34g fibre wad that should come out economical and have some good knock down clout for rabbits. I have loaded test carts and if the weather holds tomorrow then I will chronograph and test them. Will let you know how they go

roughshooter
sadly the shells I loaded were easily subsonic but the cartridge was still too noisy! I think it was because it was a slower powder than AS or BA10. I will try a different powder and see if I can get better results. I have loaded some of the BA10 with 28g of lead 3 and that is a super long range rabbit stopper. Pellet count is around 140 so would like a few more but the BA10 is so quiet......... Floating Chamber
In the 1960s we called them 'low velocity loads'. We used a low dose of Nobel 60, (later to become 80) with a card and Kleena wad. 'Little powder, plenty lead, shoots long and kills dead'.....or something like that! Yes Andy - worked it down from 22.5gr to 14gr. Everything below 21gr was "subsonic" and was still burning clean down to 15gr. Fibre wad loads. Lowest speeds were 850 fps

Same with shells, to a point.....however, not to be applied to .410!!!However, Edited July 22, 2014 by Floating Chamber
Underdog
Maybe....however a max dose of powder in a muzzle loader is always no greater than the volume of shot being shot (as a general rule). More black powder makes it spread more and less holds it tighter. Usually associated to all that gas kicking a solid wad in to the rear of the shot at leaving the muzzle. Anyway..... I think its related to volume of gas too. But can't say for sure. I don't have a 20 bore, I want one. But I need an auto 12 first.
Floating Chamber
Cook, Get yourself a vintage Winchester Model 50 or Model 59 with a Floating Chamber. Solidly machined from Chrome Molybdenum steel; no pressed metal parts. They cycle anything! No double shuffle recoil, fixed barrel; not gas operated so no cleaning of ports.
