adamskiseal
i lent my air rifle (.22) to a friend a few months back and after me asking every week for it back he finally returned it today..... the barrel is full of rust! i keep my guns in pristine condition and clean after every use! as i have never had rust on a gun before I'm just wondering what would be the best way of getting it off and any other checks i should do before i use it again. thanks in advance Adam

adamskiseal
whats best to clean it with?
Dannydp
Fine wire wool and a oil lubricant. Works wonders, the blueing on air rifles usually isn't great so it probably didn't take much neglect for it to get like that. Pictures would help. halight
now there`s a lesson learned. I've been caught out in the past with lending things out to "mates" only for it to be returned in poor condition. Too much lack of respect about for.other people things
hyflier
Just as Dannydp says, really fine wire wool and some 3 in 1 oil. The rust will come off easily, then wipe over with a soft dry cloth. if you are unlucky enough to go through the blueing, there are treatments available from your local rfd. I prefer G96, read the instructions and wear gloves - this stuff burns!
adamskiseal
After a good scrub this morning the rust is off but has left a slight marking on the barrel, I'm going to leave it for a day and then give it another go, Cheers Adam

ChrisAsh
Whats up with people you should never use wire wool anywhere near a gun, the small pieces break off and instantly start turning to rust in any small crevices they can find, Take the wood work off the gun and use it to clean up the wood but never anywhere near the metalwork of the gun, and use a magnet to make sure you gat it all off the work deck if you do use it on the wood
