Milage reimbursement

The mickey mouse " company " I work for reimburses me nine pence a mile for my diesel mondeo. What makes this worse is it costs me 10p a mile to run the bloody car and I know they charge the two contracts I run a hell of a lot more.

Does anyone know of a site that gives the rate given by the tax man ? I dont want to make a profit, just cover my fuel costs ;)

Being ex self employed I have trawled the official sites and ended up back at square one

Yep max limits are 40p 1st 10K then 25p thereafter april to april. As said you can claim the diff by filling in an audit form (oh joy!). Think these are for employed peeps. Tell em it's max rates or do one, especially if there are more than just you :D

Same here 25/40p...............didn't know about the facility to claim difference though, thanks ;)

The tight ****, I run my own company and I will tell you that I cant run one of our own vehicles for 9p per mile, this company is taking the micky, they should look at not only running costs but also your other costs too! Insurance, Tax, MOT, Tyres, Servicing, depreciation, etc etc They are laughing all the way to the bank mate!

Find another company to work for! ;)

Digger, I am afraid that 9p per mile is a fairly standard reimbursement rate for a diesel vehicle. I work for a large multi-national company who's name is a household word. They pay 9p per mile for diesel and 12p per mile for petrol. On the flip side, I run a company car and that is all I pay for my private mileage (plus the income tax on the car......ggrrrrr). Several of my engineers have opted out and run their own vehicles and they claim the difference back from the tax man as has been stated in several of the other posts in this thread.

I pay 8p per private mile on my company car. Sure there's tax but i'm not sure how much that equates to. I worked it out once and ignoring general running cost of tyres, services etc there is no way in hell i could buy a new car and tax and insure it for what i pay per month. A bloody good deal for us really.

Sorry, my post last night was a tad infused with beer. I should have clarified its my car for which I get a car allowance of £300 a month and Im an employee. Peed me off to hear other people talking of getting 48p a mile at a meeting yesterday.

many thanks for all the replies

Digger,

Those people getting 48p a mile are probably not in receipt of the £300 per month allowance that you receive, that rate is a "casual users" allowance generally paid by Local Government or other dolittle quango's.

You need to keep a careful note of your business mileage and claim reimbursement on your annual tax return at 40p per mile for the first 10,000, I think it's 25p per mile thereafter...??

As other poster's have indicated, some dastardly individuals claim for more miles than they have actually driven, and therefore over claim on their allowance, shame on them..!!

I would also suggest that you have a tactful word with your boss over the allowance that you are being paid, £300 per month after tax doesn't cover the cost of running a moped, most car users now receive between £500 / £800 per month, I suppose it depends on how much the business values your services..??

Cat.
