kyska
Off the back of the topic regarding hunting large/dangerous game. How does the licensing work for a huge calibre rifle? Obviously they are not used in this country, but what is on the FAC? The conditions would only apply in the UK, it couldn't be enforced once the rifle has left the country, so is it 'game shooting abroad' or similar? How about zeroing? Just a thought, they are very specialised weapons, I had a nightmare getting rid of my fathers S.5 kit after he retired, someone off PW took them on as they had justification to hold them. kyska
Same as any other calibre, show good reason and you will get it granted. Police can be a little awkward over expanding ammo for the mid range stuff but the really big stuff is solids only anyway. I know a fee people who have expanding on stuff in the 375-416 range as they have dual conditioning for deer too in this country and practice/reloading are good enough to justify the expanding if you have good reason. One downside is a lot of gun touchers like to say they own the big stuff and seek expanding just because they want to not need to have it and that makes it harder for everyone but they soon het bored of shooting them due to cost and recoil. Gun cost is always a big factor too. Thanks Chris, I was thinking more, what does it state on the FAC?
Harnser
It would proberbly say ,not for use in the UK . To be used over seas for sporting use only . Harnser
The Mighty Prawn
I can't help with the original question but just wanted to add I watched a guy firing 700 Nitro on youtube and he said its $125 per shot! Back on the original topic there are potentially some held in the UK at safari parks etc or possibly Bison farms as you'd need a big boy to put down an escaped elephant or other big 5? welshwarrior
I have a 470 zeroing and testing only in the UK game overseas. Mines currently on my RFD as by all accounts I have no good reason until I book a trip. A friend has no ammo holding for the UK but can on his French permit. seeker
"The *calibre RIFLE and ammunition shall be carried when proceeding to or returning from a port of embarkation and may be zeroed with non-expanding ammunition in Great Britain on ranges which are legally and safely constructed and maintained." Plus an allowance of non expanding ammunition for zeoring,

shootgun
So i might have a chance to bring over my 9,3 X 74R double rifle... Anyone knows what's the procedure for importing rifle in UK from the EU?
seeker
If you've got a slot on your FAC for that calibre and the EU state issues a transfer permit ... Read the Police Guidance Manual and chat to your F. licensing Dept ... Get the papers in order and .... follow the system.

I haven't got a slot on my FAC for a 9,3x74r, but i have the reason... i just wonder if is worth sending for a variation, if is to much hassle to bring it over... The rifle is a inheritance from my Dad and means a lot to me.
Kalahari
I knew someone who had a .416 listed for AOLQ. It is possible. Rifle like that get all your papers in order and have it for Boar and AOLQ. Good luck. David.
