FalconFN
Ultrafire are hit and miss but some are ok, I have some protected 18650s by ultrafire and they perform well. Torchy are supposed to be very good but lots of info here: http://www.torchythebatteryboy.com/p/18650-batteries-chargers.html?m=1 Edited October 4, 2014 by FalconFN

Dave-G
I have dozens from old laptop batteries that cost me nothing. Most of them are top quality cells because laptop makers would not want the bad reputation of battery warranty issues. There is a lot of scaremongering about unprotected cells around the tinternet - but that apparently only applies if you charge multiples in series without a balancing charger. I always remove them from any device to charge them and have used them for probably thousands of hours in total over the last couple of years without issue. Amazed
What charger would you recomend for the unprotected cells dave ?
mick miller
Dave, I know your heart is on the right place and you're only trying to save members money by recommending unprotected cells, but you should really stop doing so, one day this will bite someone in the ****. If you don't understand why lithium cells are protected, do some research, you don't want to be around one when it goes tonto due to deep discharge or shorting. It really is bad advice and I mean that in the nicest way possible.

When they go dull its the driver I think, this is the thing with the T20, its a lottery when you buy,I should of stuck with the NM800,the T20 is cheap to buy for a reason.Going to go back to the NM800,I want reliability in the field, driving 25ml to my perm and a T20 not performing or batteries/pills or drivers failing is not good. mick miller
Exactly, or they do it in a drawer while your asleep, or they get left in the car. Those laptop cells are contained in an outer with the protection circuit as a whole unit, they're not meant to be prised apart and used separately. But hey, save yourself a tenner, it's worth the risk. Edited October 5, 2014 by mick miller

soulboy1957
Xtar and Panasonic have been the best in my t20's and night master and they last a whole evening. Found this out through being out 3or4 nights a week. Have a box full of the others surefire etc and that's where they stay.

Dave-G
Point taken about unprotected cells - though I have to wonder why they waited till they were in a car before shorting out for no reason and would imagine a coin or something did the dirty deed. The issues are supposed to be when re-charging them if deep discharged. Doing them separately removes the risk (AS FAR AS I HAVE READ) I don't profess to be an expert. I have had no issues when using them to test up to 20 torches at a time for over 90 minutes - and run them till my NV rigs stop working. Because of the rumours I mostly charge them in the conservatory rather than indoors but I genuinely believe that separate charging removes the risk. I use chargers with separate charging circuits for each cell - this new one seems even better than the ones I use: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-XTAR-MC2-Battery-Charger-18650-18500-18350-14500-LiMn-IMR-Li-ion-USB-UK-/360993783779?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Battery_Chargers&hash=item540ce7ffe3
