help my ignorance

I have been told that its ok to put a air rifle scope on to a center fire rifle, I would have thought that the recoil would damage the scope sooner or later. Help?

I was always told the recoil of a spring powered air rifle is far more damaging to a scope than a centre fire

Use good mounts, if its a decent scope it should be fine. Our 12ft/lbs are one thing but most places 40ft/lb springers a are common!

What is the scope? Cheaper scopes aren't really that great on a centerfire as the glass can't cope with the extended range. Has the centerfire got a mod fitted? If so then it probably won't harm the scope.

 

By all means use it, but if it does knacker it due to the recoil then you probably haven't lost too much. But you will never look back after getting a decent scope.

I think it's due to parallex as to why you wouldn't put an air rifle scope on a centre fire. From what I've seen the air rife scopes put up with much more than centre fire.

Spring power air guns a renown for killing scopes so for most normal CF an spring rated air gun scope should be ok however the issue of parallax may come up as most air guns are short range tool so set closer than the normal 100m for a rifle scope.

Buy a Hawke scope. It is extremely unlikely that a centrefire will kill it, but if it does most of them come with a lifetime warranty.

An air rifle scope implies cheap - fine for air rifle ranges but CF rifles tend to shoot a little further and you might find the optics limited

Both my Nikko Mountmaster and Hawke Sport have parallax adjustment. Generally the problem you have with fixed lenses on air rifle is that the parallax is set too far out of the box at around 100yds.
