Big Al
I'm not too sure where to put this - sorry if it is in the wrong place. I am having trouble with the chiili action cam. The pictures and sounds it records are not synchronised. The manual tells me to try a different media player - which I have done - but it makes no difference. The problem seems to be getting worse and I was wondering if any other users have the same problem and if there is a fix. Thanks in advance. HDAV
Can you change the recording format?
Fal
Maybe there will be a firmware update on the manufacturers website somewhere, the issue may be a known issue?
Billy.
I don't know this video recorder you've got, but if the audio is consistently out of sync, by a few seconds or whatever, then VLC will let you offset the audio sync. It's under the settings as 'delay'. Have you tried VLC player? If you've not, forget everything you ever knew and use VLC from now on. I'll try it out tonight. I'll also check for a firm ware update and see if it can reduce the recording quality (although it is sold as an hd cam) Thanks for the very helpful replies. srspower
I have that cam, upgraded since. You need to check your settings. If you look on the memory card there is an .ini file that you can open and edit with notepad. All settings are in there. You shouldn't need to reduce quality it does 720p very well. Although you might need to make sure the microsd memory card you have is fast enough. Edited November 25, 2014 by srspower
The Mighty Prawn
There's a phenomenon with all cameras where by playing back directly from the device the sound lags behind the picture, have you tried saving the file to a PC and then playing back? I'd love to know more about this phenomenon! I've never had this issue in the past and I'd be the first person to complain if the playback on the device was out of sync. I have tried that too. I usually transfer onto pc, editIin movie maker and save. The lag is still there. It occurs on my YouTube clips too. I am about to get stuck into it now. Will keep you posted. HDAV
Are you recording at 60hz and then playing back at 50hz with a 60hz recorded audio track by any chance? These cheap cams won't have a sync clock they just start recording both when you hit record if you change the video play back frequency the sound will drift. The Mighty Prawn
I'd love to know more about this phenomenon! I've never had this issue in the past and I'd be the first person to complain if the playback on the device was out of sync. It happens consistently with HDV format cameras playing through a media player that has a different codec, when I first started editing I had a Sony camera and ran Adobe Premiere Pro and playback 'live' from the camera always had about 6 frames of audio lag but once digitised in everything was fine. I'm not that technically skilled to understand exactly why it happens but my guess is the picture data and sound data go through different codecs obviously so they fall out of sync on playback until you give it the markers to sync them which occurs during capture. My GoPro sometimes does it when I play back on my ipad but it seems like only with certain settings - we often comment at work how life would be so much easier if all manufacturers could agree on one format and all stick to it! Big Al
Thanks to everyone who has replied. I have tried a few things and will try it out on the weekend's pheasant shoot. Can you change the recording format? I have set the recording quality to a lower resolution. We'll see if that helps. Maybe there will be a firmware update on the manufacturers website somewhere, the issue may be a known issue? Unfortunately I can find no firmware upgrade for my camera. I had good fun with this one - what a great media player! Problem is that the lag is not consistent, so if I set it correctly for one part of the film it is "out" again 30 seconds later. I have that cam, upgraded since. You need to check your settings. Although you might need to make sure the microsd memory card you have is fast enough. This could be it too. If the reduced resolution doesn't help then I think my next step will be to try a new micro sd card. Thanks you to everyone who has replied. If these don't work, I could be going for one of the £99 go-pros from Santa.

Dougy
Could it have anything to do with the RAM on your PC not able to cope. I have recently found out that playing back 1080hd off my gopro at 60fps it struggles.
srspower
Mighty prawn is right if you try and play video straight from the camera when plugged in to your pc. The card isn't fast enough for playback. You need to copy the video to your pcs hard drive first then play it.

Ahh, you said with ALL cameras. Personally, I think you're doing something wrong. Even though the HDV codecs are old and lossy, it's easier for playback devices to keep them in sync. Sync may start to slip or skip if you went for a ridiculously high bitrate and your playback device can't handle it. Life wouldn't be easier if everyone stuck to the same format. It would be a complete nightmare. Not to mention impossible Edited November 26, 2014 by Billy.
