Ey up,

As some of you are aware earlier in the year I started my deer stalking journey. I've shot roe and red upto now.I have also been after the muntjac( with no success)

Any way I had an invite off PW member Colin Lad to go down his way to see if I could grass one, so yesterday off I popped down to Colin's , after a 3 hour journey I arrived at B&B and arranged to meet Colin at his house. After the usual pleasantries Colin asked if I'd like to go bunny bashing as he had an order off a customer for a few. Well I wasn't going to decline so we jumped in Colin's truck and off we popped.Colin fitted his rifle with a night vision add on ( archer if I remember correctly ) well I've never used one before and I was very impressed. My first 2 shots missed ( just getting used to using it , that's my excuse any way ha ha ha) but after I'd settled in we ended dropping 8 all head shot.

After our bunny session I departed to the B&B after arranging to meet Colin at 6.30 am the following day,

This morning I met Colin and off we walked to the woods on his perm , which was directly behind the B&B
Where I was staying. We made our way slowly to some feeders where Colin had seen the "hedgerow Kings" and then we waited. After 45 mins and no sightings we decided to move around the wood .We did bump one but they don't hang around ha ha ha,

At 9.00am we decided to retire to a fine dining establishment (a lay-by burger van ha ha) after a damn good double cheese burger and a brew Colin said lets go for a drive round looking for (chinese water deer) . So off we popped again having a good natter and banter as we searched. Colin did most of the glassing as numpty ballcocks here forgot his binos( what a tool!!!!) after a glass around a few fields Colin took me to a field where the he and the land owner had recently spotted a couple laying up in the rape.

We walked the perimeter glassing as we walked, as we reached the top of the brow on the field , Colin stopped and said" there's 2 lay in the field about 300 YDS away. We're on I thought great stuff. Luckily the wind was blowing across us from left to right with the deer directly in front of us looking away from us so in we slowly stalked, stopping when the deer raised there heads. We were crawling by now and managed to get to within 150 YDS. I slowly set up my sticks to kneeling height and readied the rifle, it was just a case of waiting till one stood up as only there heads were visible above the 8" high rape, the doe stood I aimed at the back of the shoulder and squeezed the trigger, buck fever had set in and I missed high a few inch over the top!!! The deer ran 30 YDS and stopped unaware of us , I quickly chambered another round ,the second round hit the mark a lung shot ( I saw and heard the strike and the fur fly) it ran for 20 YDS and dropped stone dead,
To say I was over the moon was an under statement, I was chuffed to bits my first cwd, a nice doe,

I would like to say a big ,big heartfelt thank you to Colin Lad for helping me out big time, we had good banter and it was great to be given the opportunity to stalk a different species in another part of the country,

Colin you are a true gent and fellow shooter, we need more Colin lads in the shooting community ,

PS I WILL GET A MUNTY SOMETIME HA HA , that will be a different future story

it is amazing how an animal as big as a cwd can hide his body in such short rape,

if you have never stalked them and don't know what to look for it would be very easy to walk past them,

knowing how many are in that 1st field we looked in i am sure we could of missed a few in there,

Quite right mate, 10 out of 10 to you Colin for spotting them, perfect timing I missed all the traffic on my way home ha ha

Nice one Kev, you are very lucky to grass a CWD, some foreigner would pay plenty money to shoot one, especially a buck.
