Hopper Bopper
Hi guys, Does any one use 20 guage for geese please? I want to treat myself to a 20 but will probably have to part chop my A400 Explor and so I will maybe loose the load capacity required. Cheers HB
fenboy
I would say if you are doing anything other than the occasional inland goose trip you will be handicapping yourself considrably going for a 20 gauge . The heavier cartridges if you can get them will kick like a bitch too .
Big Mat
Perfectly do able with ITM or Hevi shot. Perhaps steel but i have no experience of 20 bore. I know of one local fowler who now uses a 20 for all his foreshore work
Hopper Bopper
Unfortunately that is what I thought Fenboy. Thanks for the quick reply. HB

The current lyvale hevi shot 12 guage cartridges have such small loads they are barely fit for purpose let alone a 20 gauge .
rich1985
I use my 20 on ducks and geese, shot some good geese too! If you want to be on the marsh after the high stuff like pinks though I would use a 12 or a 10 bore tho!
BIG 5
I have shot 36g of No4 shot through my 20g many times. Never really notice the kick much that people talk about. Not the thing to use on geese though. Why ***** them?
Hopper Bopper
Thanks for all the replies gents. I think I might need to rethink my tactics with the misses and try to keep the semi. HB

RossEM
I shot quite a few with my old 20, it's do-able but range is restricted with steel cartridges. I did well decoying & flighting inland in Scotland with 3" lead cartridges. The best gun/cartridge combination I've used for geese is a 10 bore with 1/4 choke, using 3 1/2" Remington Nitro Steel BB. Grandalf
Don't know where you shoot but some clubs insist on 12 or larger.
