Evening PW massive.

Had my first driven day today on a small local shoot.

I was very excited and nervous for today but had talked myself into just trying to relax enjoy the day and just swing that gun without over thinking or looking at the gun just the bird. Unfortunately there where not many birds about and the partridge that did show refused to fly very high so only ten birds where shot by ten guns, on the up side I had a cock pheasant close by going left to right, easy bird really then the hen which was a much faster right to left followed by an English Partridge which was too low to be sporting at first but a good bird going away behind and then the last English was a fast right to left which past down the side of me. All the birds where hit with the first barrel and only the last needed a second shot so all in all a steady introduction to game shooting but with a mix of shots and to say I'm over the moon with four birds for six shots (missed first Pheasant) is an understatement. Really enjoyed the day even though it rained most of it. Guns now clean and dry carts drying in airing cupboard bring on the 31st my next try with LFS Can't wait 😃

Nice shooting there, I cant remember the last time I had the chance of an English partridge. Shoot numbers are going down now as our shoot normally gets about 45-50 but boxing day produced 8 birds to 64 shots and today produced 7 birds to 58 shots both days had 7 guns. There were some nice high birds today that the guns had no chance in hitting as it was just after lunch and the wine was still fresh on there breath. beaters day should be a good one for us this year as we have some cracking shooters that do not miss any opportunity.

Good luck for the 31st

Cheers gents I just love the experience of shooting whether it's big noisey guns or stealthy air rifle at night this made a nice change today and I'll remember those four birds forever. Next shoots 1 drive then all walked up shooting so different again.

Excellent stuff. Thanks for sharing

I rarely do any driven shooting, but I took the chance a few days ago on an invite. It wasn't the biggest bag ever, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and I can remember every bird I shot.

But can you remember every bird you missed? My spies tell me that there were quite a few misses on your recent outing in Essex.

Yes I do remember them. There were only a few misses and they were all difficult crossers of the same kind. I doubt your spy told you about the nice driven birds (5 out of 6) that I shot on the same drive. That pesky Essex hunter!
