Fisherman Mike
I'm thinking of buying my wife a 04 plate golf of a little old lady in the village...she has had it since new and was &* when she bought it.. It only got 13k on the clock and hasn't been driven for 6 years and stored under a sheet in the garage. The only problem is it needs a replacement windscreen, tin of paint fell on it a few years back. Can any one tell me how much I would be looking roughly at before I consider making her an offer. Thanks as always

TaxiDriver
Is it paint on the screen or its cracked it ? As an example, I recently made enquiries about a new screen for an 05 Ford Transit and was quoted £120- £140 for cash

Gordon R
A relative worked for the World's biggest automotive glass company in the world, until about 3 years ago. The retail for a Golf screen was £175. The cost to staff - it had to go out at cost plus 2 1/2% - was £10. I would be getting down to a breakers for a secondhand one. neil82
if its bonded just buy it, insure it fully comp and a week later just claim for a screen under the glass cover, usually about £70, will not count as a claim regarding NCD

I'm sorry although the insurance companies rip us off I'm not dishonest enough to do that ...what goes round comes round...I truly believe this old adage ! pegleg31
Have a look in the breakers as someone else has said and just get someone who knows what they are doing to fit it

Twistedsanity
If it hasn't moved for six years it will probably need some recomissioning, things like brakes where calipers can seize, pads can deteriorate, cables can seize, bushes and gaiters made from rubber can perish, exhausts can rot, fuel system parts persih internally, depending on what it was covered with there could be lots of condensation issues , sidewalls on the tyres cracked etc. if it's more than a Couple of hundred quid I would be very wary regardless of how many owners it had and how low the mileage is, at the end of the day it's only a golf not the classic car you have always wanted, caveat emptor

Won't do any harm to have a mechanic give it the once over . I bet that their are dealers on here who would buy it sight unseen . I would .
