steve_b_wales
Approx 30 of my .243 cases, that I neck resized and primed, allow the bullet to drop straight into the case. Not sure why this has happened, because the other 140 that I prepared and reloaded today, are fine. The only thing I can think of doing now is to full resize them, removing the decapping pin first. Although I have decapped live primers before without any problems.
Underdog
Leave the decapper in, you need the expander ball on it. Your only pushing the primer out. No percussion used! Be OK.
Dougy
Some dies you can remove the pin. RCBS Forster and Redding you can. But as UD says you need the expander.

That's what I've done in the past. Some dies you can remove the pin. RCBS Forster and Redding you can. But as UD says you need the expander. I'll try later and resize them. wymberley
Have they age/work hardened and sprung back and therefore need annealing (or scrapping)?
steve_b_wales
Have they age/work hardened and sprung back and therefore need annealing (or scrapping)? I'm not sure to be honest. I will check them over later, and will dump them if there's any problems with them.
seeker
How many loading have they had? Lapua suggest at least 10x for theirs and probably good for more ... subject, of course, to "proper usage" etc.

Funny enough, I have just done that, and they seemed fine. I popped the live primers out and the heads now need pressure to fit them I can even us the primers again!. Dougy
It's a swine when you've done 50 and put powder in them all as well.😅
steve_b_wales
Got me beat now mate. U. Me too. So what you're saying is that you thought you'd sized them but you hadn't! They were all sized. Don't know what happened to them. It's a swine when you've done 50 and put powder in them all as well.😅 Yeah, I said a few 'choice' words. In future, after I have sized them, I am going to see if the bullet is loose, before adding powder.

steve_b_wales
Did you manage to remove the pin and What dies have you got I use Lee dies. Left the pin in, gently removed the primers. No damage to them so I can use them again.

Amazed
With the lee collet die you will have to give them a good squeeze if they are older cases. Have you cleaned the inside of the die reacently as they can jam up and push all you like they won't budge. A deep clean polish lube up and good to go. Used to do the hornet one about 3 times a year. Don't give to harder squeeze, I got a brand new set of lee dies of Fister and bust the top of the collet die on the 8th pressing lol. The Ali top is designed to rip the threads if to much pressure applied.
wymberley
I'm going to give the dies a good clean tomorrow. Amazed is right about the die jamming as is Reggie about too much squeeze. It happened to me but so long ago I'd forgotten about it, and had the same problem. Before sizing, ensure that the bottom insert is free with some end float. The cure is to remove the top cap, tip out the components and polish the external and internal cone mating surfaces. For some unknown reason this didn't happen on the 243 or 223, just the Hornet.
