WinchesterDave
UD, which lens have you bought with IS? This lens doesn't have IS I could justify the extra 400-500 pounds.. We shall see what it can do when there's decent light around the place...so far it's just dull and grey..
johnphilip
the secert to good photos is take more than one of the same subject from differant angles take loads and delete the ones you dont like . then when people see your results they will say wow they are good , you must be a good man with a camera. trust me thats how the pro's do it . i have been taking photos and spend loads of money on gear . even did some work for a model agent quite a few years ago . its not easy taking pictures of semi clad ladies ... enjoy it when you get into you start to see the world in a differant way. you start looking at things and in your mind you say, em that will make a nice picture , how should i go about capturing it . i used to do my own black and white , and slide developing years ago that was an amazing thing seeing your image come to life on paper , then you would notice the time, hey 3 in the morning i need to be up for work soon.......enjoy
WinchesterDave
John, great advice. I think I'm already doing that, my girlfriend usually says how can you take loads of photos of the same thing...however she's getting into it now and hasn't said that for a while...hrmmm haha... with regards to seeing the world differently, I 100% agree with you, I'm always looking for 'pictures' I really genuinely enjoy it. This lens doesn't have IS I could justify the extra 400-500 pounds.. Don't get too hung up on IS. It's handy to have but your technique is far more important. Most people advise to turn off IS if shooting moving subjects or from a tripod anyway. Keep your shutter speeds up, or a tripod in poor light, and you'll be ok. Nice lens Dave, what will you be using it for?
docholiday
Its a cracking lens, no idea what lens Underdog bought but the canon is lenses are the best in the world The zooms are never as good as the prime lenses but it is still an amazing bit of kit that will serve you well, what are you shooting with it? looking forward to seeing the results

Nice lens Dave, what will you be using it for? I have read that about IS and I do have a tripod so I'm not overly worried about it but thank you:) I will be using it for general purpose really, hopefully some wildlife shots too, I know the focal length is going to be restrictive on that subject matter, however It should still be okay. As said in previous reply I'm going to use it for general purpose shooting and hopefully some wildlife if I can get close enough that is I'll post pictures when I have some that are acceptable; ) cheers all for the replies atb Dave
