Dunkield
Yes it's that time of year again . . Has anyone one here bought loads of goodies and then declared them in the UK on their return? If so, what do you expect to pay other than VAT? are there any other duties? I have a business trip trip next month and it is dangerously close to a Cabela's, well 260 miles isn't far in the States is it? I have done the other thing :( but I have never gone through the Red channel.

The best thing you could do is pay my airfair and I will bring it over as my own and gifts eliminating all taxes and problems. $460 return thats about 210 pounds and since Bass Pro is only about 60 miles away NTTF

Dunkield
Well I walked a Leopold Mk4 in my bag or my mate, last time. But if I get half the stuff I plan to there is no way I could claim it is anything other than new With the dollar rate as good as it is I reckon it will still be worth it. Pity there is no way McMillan can have a stock ready for 4 weeks time though...

NorfolkBoy
I'm almost tempted to start offering a 'giftwrapping' service........
Dunkield
I'm almost tempted to start offering a 'giftwrapping' service........ :( You should Nice little side line It is very hard for stuff that isn't available instantly to hit it right when you are there. If you use McMillan as an example, there is no way you can time your visit for when they may have something ready.

pin
Luck of the draw, they can't and don't check everything, just random samples. You can write or have written on a package anything you like but it won't make any difference - if they open it you pay Unless its samples with a declared 0 value, a gift under £18 (IIRC) or is items for "test" then you will have to pay import duty and possibly vat depending on what it is. pavman
I got a jacket from Bass Pro in sept last year and had to pay £34 tax via DHL invoice. I had to send the jacket back in jan as it leaked in the first real rains we had, so far i only got refunded the tax (yesterday) they claim to have repayed the postage i had to pay to send it back, but have not :( I thinks getting kit from the USA is fine but if you have to send it back its a real pain, I am £80 out of pocket and still have no jacket

I guess its the 'overseas' bit that causes problems.....
