Prize1994
Hi all , I'am new to this forum and would like to get some advice on about shooting. I've had 5 lessons so far where on the first one shot 30 out of 50 clays ( that's not bad is it?) Been to West London Shooting Ground today again to get my membership and to have a lesson which was great. Also have joined a membership at CPSA. I don't have a Licence but planning to apply for one once had couple of lessons more. Maybe by any chance there is somebody who can guide me through not only into clays but also a game shooting (well not for free obviously) I would appriciate . In my opinion I will learn a lot at the lessons with a coach on the technique but field experience it's always something different . Also would like to know what are the chances of me getting a SGC in North West London ? I didn't have any health issues . Many Thanks P. drut
Hello & welcome, you are right good time with a coach pays dividends.SGC should not be a problem unless you have "issues" and the shooting community generally friendly and helpful. demonwolf444
Welcome to the forum, Seeing as though you have a genuine interest in shooting, no health issues and have the necessary security in place when the time comes i see no issues with you getting your ticket. Geographical location shouldn't factor in the application of the law. Enjoy the sport. James. Edit - was reading the other post about the guy asking about SGC and being 15 and got the two confused! Prize1994
Thanks for the replies guys , I haven't had any issues with police except being stopped by police without insurance ( insurance company cancelled policy :( ) so had suspended driving licence for 6 months Other than that I haven't had issues with health. Thanks. P

vmaxphil
I'd say put in for your licence now as it can take a while, as long as you can secure a cabinet properly I can see no reason why not
norfolk dumpling
As far as game shooting is concerned its good to do a couple of seasons beating (brushing in Norfolkshire) as this will give you an insight in to a lot of the culture, the clothing, the conditions and you may get an invite to shoot on the beaters day plus ago at pigeons - roost shooting occurs on all Saturdays in February. Good luck and enjoy this wonderful sport.

Read, understand and memorise this poem, ‘A Father’s Advice’ because, especially as a new shooter safety is a state of mind that you must develop and be constantly aware of whilst taking in everything else that you need to learn. Muzzle awareness is the best advice that I can give you, make sure that they are always pointing in a safe direction from the moment you begin shooting as a keen newbe until the day you put down your gun for the last time due to age and infirmity. Safe shooting and good luck with your endeavours it is a great sport.
Prize1994
Thanks STOTTO , Will keep this in my mind defenitely. From the beginning I understand that becoming a good shooter isn't just knowing how to shoot ,tradition , ect and mainly its safe handling the gun and once that's in my head (well it is already )means that I'am half way to succeed. It's the passion. Thanks P.

It's the passion. Thanks P. Halfway to success means that you are only halfway from disaster, learn best safe firearms handling practise and discipline yourself to always employ it, whether on the shooting range or off it. Do not emulate others even if you respect their shooting abilities if their gun handling safety procedures are wanting, always be your own man when shooting in company as regards safety. This is an old publication but still has a lot of useful stuff inside and is worth a read. https://www.cpsa.co.uk/userfiles/file/CTSH.pdf Regards
