fat_jay
Hi all, just dug out an old Mercury from my old garage. Seems in good order, but low in power. Is there a service kit available, or somewhere I could send it to get it close to the legal limited? Don't want to spend a fortune, but if I could make it useable while I carry on saving for a PCP it would be handy. Thanks in advance Jay

hoggysreels
My mate picked one up... it had been bought used very lightly then returned to it box. The original owner passed away. His wife just wanted it out the way, so enter my mate who bought it .. its like new ... not saying what he actually paid for it, but it was cheap; very cheap! bruno22rf
There was a shop selling brand new Mercury's last year-old stock just rediscovered I believe.
lineshooter
You need to strip it and check the cylinder, the buffer washers tend to perish and leave a gritty residue which could score the cylinder, I found an old mark 1 last year, got the bits from John Knibbs to fix it up, spent around £50, it`s doing 10.5 fpe, I could get it a bit higher but I will put some pellets trough it first, they are quite basic and easy to work on yourself. hyflier
Depending how far you're up in Norfolk, if you get the parts, you are welcome to come and use my titan spring compressor and tools, you can fix it up yourself and I'll be around if you need help. The generosity of the guys on here never fails to amaze me, that`s a good offer as you will struggle without a spring compressor, unless you have the strength of the Hulk and as many arms as an Octopus. Thanks everyone for your help......Next question, the scope touches the top of the rifle, i guess thats not ideal, can i get longer scope mounts? (if thats the right name for them) Jay

fat_jay
Thanks everyone, the seal at the top of the barrell (where you put the pellets in) has pretty much fallen apart, any ideas where i can order one? Im asuming its not just an o ring i can get from the plumbers merchant? Jay
fenboy
Gunspares.co.uk should have a breech seal.
oz.man64
Ok top of the piston is a plastic seal holder holds o ring in situ. You can get alloy replacement put a lot of sm50 or whatever its called now when your putting it back together on o ring. Mercury owner here love em
hyflier
Jay, if the breech seal has perished, it's a decent bet the buffer washer has too. If you fire it with the buffer washer defective, you will break the piston head pin. Get it in bits and renovate it properly. (Please?) You may get away with the piston O ring being ok, but while it's in bits..............
manthing
Chambers site is also a good place for spare parts. And they are ridiculously easy to work on, mine needs a complete rebuilding.
bruno22rf
These guns are worth looking after and are capable of performing well if treated properly. I have the Mercury S in .177 (rare) and it will shoot sub 10mm groups at 25 yards with the right pellet. If you have a .177 version you need to try as many different pellets as you can because BSA seemed to have made their barrels slightly bigger than most others-a lot of modern pellets drop about 1/2" down the barrel-Air Arms field drop down but seem the most accurate in mine anyway. As for mounts-you can buy dedicated BSA one piece mounts from Sportsmatch or use a pair of "reach forward" mounts but with the offset mount reversed and nearest the trigger.
