eddoakley
I have never actually used one of the above but have just bought one to try. I know I wont get round to using it for a week or two and was wondering just how quiet they are? Its a saddlery and gun room version if that make any difference. IM told that it is quiet enough to use anywhere that you would use an airgun, who can confirm that? Cheers Edd
fenboy
I have had one or two different ones over the years and they certainly are nowhere as quiet as a airgun . Also how quiet they are depends on surroundings , if there are buildings etc they tend to sound louder , still much quiter that a un moderated gun though. scutt
I use a Baikel over barrel mod in 410 they get quieter with use plus eley fourlongs no6 are good . I use mine around farm buildings doesn't disturb any stock and crows come back soon after firing .As quite as my old B.S.A sportsman. mikewareing
Mine is very quiet with Eley 3" subsonic rounds, I can knock squirrels out of trees at 35 yards. Not as quiet as an air rifle, but very sociable close to houses and livestock. Mike
MGMPEST
i use a 20g bikal single barrel hush power, i have not long bought it. Every review i read said they were as quiet as an air rifle, hmmmm, not so true. yes they are a lot quieter than an unmoderated 12g, if your shooting near woodland you can hear that thunder through it. the hush power is quieter, theres not so much need for ear defenders but they do still go bang. Not a lot of difference in noise between subsonic cartridges and standard velocity. hope this helps.
Guest cookoff013
make subs for better performance and quietness.
landy george
Just used my Baikel .410 hushpower for the first time last night & I'm well pleased with it. I've got a few horses on my perm so sound is an issue but the sound is more like a loud clap. A lot easier than the air rifle to use on my perm. Jay_Russell
I pick mine up on saturday, but ive used a lent one several times. Definately louder than an air rifle i think its about 40db with 3inch eley magnums subs. It sounds a lot quiter when your not standing behind the gun. It shoots a little lower than expected but with full choke as they come it pattens around 12inchs at 30 yds. Ive found nothing tends to spook from the noise even in a woods were ill be using mine. Jay_Russell
And apparently they het a little quieter with use when the coke builds up.
southeastpete
I shot 3 rabbits in the same field when lamping. They ran around at the shot, but didn't run off. I'd shoot one at about twenty paces, walk to it and reload, shoot another. It was a Reasonably windy night, but by no means full on wind. I flogged mine when I was getting married. But want to get another , very useful little gun to have near horses. I might get the mossberg as the extra shots would be fun for squirrels. I did want to pattern it with 5's, 6's and 7's just to see.
Jay_Russell
The chap i borowed the baikal off i was using his .410 mossberg pump hushpower at the same time. Same carts eley magnum subs and the mossy was definately louder than the baikal Edited June 11, 2015 by Jay_Russell
Jay_Russell
i went out yesterday with mine in the woods, had a mix of eley magnum 18g no6 and eley magnum subsonics also 18g no6. The subs are much quieter mainly due to the fact theres no sonic crack. I managed 5 bunnies and two squirels. All stone dead furthest one was just over 30yds. Jay_Russell
Yep. The subs sounded like an unmoderated fac air rifle. The std carts more like a small calibre moderated rifle. The game keeper was 100 ish yds away through trees he didnt recocnise the sound as a gunshot when i was using the subs
