storsey
Good evening gentlemen ... I have just bought my first .22lr and will be picking it up in a couple of weeks time ... But I understand that certain guns like to be fed certain ammo .... Do I have to buy a box of everything before I know what my gun likes or is there a particular brand that CZ452 .22lr's prefer ? Any response would be appreciated Cheers
bruno22rf
Mine loves Eley subs and RWS hv-the RWS can be very hard to find though.
welshwarrior
Really yes you need to try the ammo to know, in reality that means the ammo you can get locally to you. I find most rifles will work quite well with CCI Eley Remington winchester

wymberley
'fraid so. Get a box of everything you can get locally - or try and scrounge a slack handful of each - and pick the one that groups best. It's well worth trying to get SK if you can because if they suit, their standard deviation is negligible and consequently are far more consistent. Enjoy! superspark
As others have said, buy a few boxes of each ammo and try it, mine likes winchesters the best. Good groups, cci are not to bad either. I tried a variety of different makes with mixed results. On high volosity it likes cci mini mags, l shoot a lot squirrels as well as rabbit and corvids out to arround 100 yards so grouping is quite important for me. Uncle Albert
It's very true, barrels shoot best with one type of bullet. The trouble is that two rifles, brand new, bought on the same day and with consecutive serial numbers may well prefer different bullets. The only way to be sure is to get different brands and try them all until you find the one that suits your barrel. However, if you ask your gun shop where you pick it up from they may well help by recommending you start with one particular brand. My CZ455 loves Wini subs but doesn't like Eley subs. If you have a mate that shoots .22lr then try some of the ammo he/she uses, they may do a swap with some of yours for a trial. That's how I found out my 455 don't like Eleys, too many hang-ups. They wouldn't cycle correctly. Went back to Wini subs - no probs. Afraid it's a question of trial and error till you get the right one, then stick to it.
