well before i start i am not keen on my lad signing on but,

my youngest lad passed his selection for the army he was due to go in end of may,

he was employed on a zero hour contract for a removals firm and was getting some regular work,

he handed his notice in 1st of may ( 1 month ) and on the 4th may had a accident on his motorbike and damaged his knee so straight away phoned the army and told them he would not be ready as his was walking on crutches,

they told him to get better and when he feels ready get the all clear from doctors and send them a note saying so and they would put him on next intake,

he is still struggling along on one stick and has a mri scan at end of may,

problem is it could be a few more months before he can get in army,

he is not getting any money as the job won't take him back if he can't work and i don't see they should,

he i convinced that as he has been accepted for the army he can't claim any job seekers so he is kind of stuck with no money and is costing me a packet,

now i know you will say if he can't work he should not get any money but until accident he had bean earning and paying his tax and NI monies for 3 years and is not a scrounger he would work if he could,

so is there anything he can claim or is he out of options ???

thanks all i will go have a word with him.

it will save me £25 a week as because it happened in this way i been feeling sorry for him and helping him a bit,

be assured he wouldn't get a penny if he was just being lazy he would just be getting my boot up his back side

lol

This is a clear case where welfare benefits should apply, your lad has been in receipt of an income previously, he has been accepted for the army and only an injury prevents him from starting with them, there is a clearly identifiable series of events that would lead to him signing on for a bit. I hope that the DWP see it the same way.

Dead right, the lads not a bum, he's a grafter who's gonna serve his queen and country

Get him down the dole office Colin and make sure he gets what his dad, his grandad and himself have paid into and grafted for over the years ie help for an English grafter/ future service man in need

That's what it was set up for,

Not for the damn scroungers and work shy bums

I seem to recall that you cannot claim anything for 6 weeks if you handed in your notice-if he is not fit for work then he might get Independent living allowance but the waiting list for an appointment is about a year to see a medical chap and then about 6 weeks for the DHSS to make a decision

Would have thought a doctor`s note would suffice to claim sickness benefit. That was all I needed when I hurt my back.

The notice thing might play a part but as he was leaving for another job it might be ignored. Check it out at the DSS, worst they can do is say no.

If he claims Jsa They will put a sanction on him for handing notice in depending who processes it as to how many weeks it would be for. If he's got a sick note of the doc put a claim in for esa or pip depending on area either way get the claims in straight away as you lose the first few days of the claim.

At least that's how it was when I use to work for dwp a couple of years ago
