FalconFN
What batteries? Batteries in series will double the voltage. Most Sony CCD cameras will run on as little as 5 volts so if you are using 18650s (rated at 3.7 V but charged to 4.2 V) 2 will give enough voltage. Dave-G
I supply all my rigs powered by two 18650 cells for the camera and screen, not had any returned yet. illuminators are powered separately in mine regardless if its a fitted or integrated torch body. FalconFN
My spotter is also powered by 2 18650s, it runs the camera, near-eye viewfinder and built in T20. I've not run out of battery in the field yet.
ayrshiretaxidermy
Various ways you can do this, reason I did it was so I can use my NV's without having to wear my reading glasses the eye piece has a 2.8 diopter that focus on the screen as if I am wearing my reading glasses with the added bonus of no reflection of the screen as my eye is pushed up tight on the eyepiece. If I use just a normal screen I have to put my readers on to take the shot, but with the eye piece and the diopter I can see the cross hair without the aid of my glasses.Effectivly it's like having one of the lenses from my reading glasses fixed into the eye piece if that makes sense. The small one with the red ring on has a focusable diopter just behind the red ring. The long one is a fixed diopter as its set just the right distance from the screen & shooting with this is brilliant & the Photon XT I bought simple can't get touch it for clarity or distance. I think Fruity went down the same lines but I think his eyes are ok LOL, so I think he took the diopter out. What distance are you talking for a fox sized target, using a T67 IR? Ta. steve_b_wales
I've made myself a NV spotter, with help and advice off Davyo, (thanks mate) and I'm pleased with the result. I have a x2 telephoto lens that I would like to fit at the front to increase the image. I've checked it by holding it in front of the camera lens and it works well. But I need a piece of 50mm plastic or metal tube to place between the two lens. I only need a 25mm -20mm length. Does anyone know where I could get some from? Steve. Best check that in low light with an IR Steve. A doubler apparently raises the F stop of the lenses so although you get a larger image it loses a proportional amount of light gathering abiltiy. That may not be an issue if you are blasting stacks of IR out, as many people do but the no IR spotting occasions will suffer

I will be using the spotter with a T20 torch fitted with an 'AS' IR pil, and it will be used for NV only.
Alpha Mule
Mine isn't finished, but I've jury rigged what I have received so far and am pleasantly pleased with what, I'm seeing now. Field test didn't happen due to pants weather. Project box is still to arrive and I'm using a box that gangs 8*AAs to give 12v. The double 18650s will have to be tested at a later date. You might want to bung an 'AS' LED in that 501b - transforms it.

vampire
Too many PM's to answer so here's the parts list KPC E709 IR FILTER PRE REMOVED WITH 16mm LENS FROM SURE24 £59.00 MONITOR EBAY ITEM 290994428412 or similar. £12.98 SILICONE TUNE ( diam depends on your eye relief ) £6.07 PROJECT BOX EBAY ITEM 321612413218. £3.99 DOUBLE BATTERY HOLDER FOR 18560 batts EBAY 271897325452. £1.69 ON/OFF SWITCH EBAY 331591530784. £2.79 TOTAL. £86.52 SORRY FORGOT TO ADD YOU WILL NEED THE FLO PLAST THING FROM SCREWFIX THEY ARE ABOUT £1.10 or ABOUT £5.00 for 5. Dave G is selling a cracking camera holder at the moment which is by far the best thing out there for attaching the cam to scope.Although it would put a bit more cost into your builds is well worth the outlay rather than the silicone tube.Ive been quite lucky with the tube due to using one that's 4mm at each end. Battery's I would stay clear of the really cheap stuff & get genuine Panasonics or Torchy boys. The IR is your choice from T20's to the NM800 (my choice). I have just however received a T50 from night scout that fine for the monies.

steve_b_wales
I have made an NV spotter, and the project box that I was advised to get, turned out to be too small for my liking. I purchased a box from Screwfix, which allowed me to fit the battery holder/batteries, and switch with plenty of room left. I could even bolt a camera pistol grip into it. Also, the box has punch out holes, which made it easier when I assembled it. Here's the link: http://www.screwfix.com/p/ip55-enclosure-grey-150-x-85-x-65mm/35121?_requestid=77911
Alpha Mule
Nice one Steve. Do the screw columns in the middle of the base not get in the way, or did you bolt the screen to the lid?
steve_b_wales
Nice one Steve. Do the screw columns in the middle of the base not get in the way, or did you bolt the screen to the lid? The screen was just stuck to the top of the box, by means of the self adhesive pad. There are no screws. I drilled a small hole through the top, to thread the screen cable into the box. Plenty of room inside the box to fit battery holder/batteries. and also to screw the pistol grip into. I need to tidy the wires up inside, but even if I left them as they are, they are okay, and won't cause any problems. Here's the link to where I bought the screen. I paid £12.00. It's gone up in price. http://www.amazon.co.uk/inch-Digital-Monitor-Parking-Automobile/dp/B0056WJP1M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453412795&sr=8-1&keywords=BW%C2%AE+3.5+inch+TFT+LCD+Digital+Car+Rear+View+Monitor+%2CCar+Parking+Monitor+for+Car+%2F+Automobile
Alpha Mule
After much faffing I decided to swap things around a little. The MTC Mamba has come off the Tikka T3 22-250 and is now on the CZ HMR. Have been out this afternoon for a spot of zeroing (I cheated as the weather was looking a bit threatening and went for the second zero at 42.5m (have done this before and it sets me up nicely with a primary zero at 106m (and yes, it does group nicely (I've checked!)))) giving a 1" zone from 27m to 127m - which is just sweet for this warren and my favourite spots . I've cut down a bit of pipe and fitted it so that there is no clear space between the camera and the scope. Batteries all charged. Now all I need is for the rain to hold off and a bit of cloud ('my' bunnies hate full moons). Hopefully I can find a patch of field that isn't waterlogged, to set up and watch the warrens.
