spandit
For anyone wondering if muntjac have reached East Sussex, I can confirm that they have... or at least had. The chap who took me out forgot his mod so wasn't shooting and was very gracious but obviously gutted that we saw and shot the first ever muntjac he's seen on any of his permissions and first first I've ever seen. Had they been in season and with an appropriate calibre, we could have shot many fallow too...
shootgun
Well done on the munty! There are spreading fast all over the country, i have plenty on my ground on the Surrey / West Sussex border , very difficult to shoot though, due to the heavy cover. JDog
Congratulations on your first deer. It will not be the only one in your area.
Whitebridges
Well done. Loads of Munty here, more than ever. We've even got them very close to Norwich city centre. More killed on the roads than shot i would say judging by the roadkill on the A47 and A11.
Dunkield
Not an easy time of year to shoot munties, I have left them alone for a while but shall get back on once the cover dies back a bit. Well done, nice placement and a great result.
spandit
Thanks, all. I'm glad he was fairly close as haven't done much long range shooting and I'm thrilled to get such a good shot in. I'm sure there will be more but I'll always remember this one
malkiserow
Well done, Munties don't tend to stand around in the middle of a field waiting to be shot, they creep about on the edges or woodland so are a very worthy quarry. Excellent shot placement.
spandit
Well done, Munties don't tend to stand around in the middle of a field waiting to be shot, they creep about on the edges or woodland so are a very worthy quarry. Excellent shot placement. That means a lot to me, thank you. He did take a while to stand clear of any foliage and although he was close enough that he probably would have been killed regardless, I'd rather have let him go than take any chances. When we gralloched him, the bullet had gone straight through the heart, amazing that he still managed to run a little way before dropping. Just trying to decide what recipe to use when I get the meat back (the guy who took me out is putting it in the chiller and butchering for me)
WelshMike
Well done mate, as you say they are on the move fairly rapidly. They have them in most of Shropshire and they are moving slowly into Mid Wales so hopefully I may get an opportunity soon. I have a mate who shoots a fair few deer 60-70 per year and he will leave most other deer go by if he has a chance to shoot a Muntjac. I hope this is the first of many for you.
