90 pigeons bagged on laid peas

Been watching a small pea field over last week as numbers picked up from about 20 to 200 in less than a week. Looked at weather for this week and took yesterday off work to have a go. Peas have gone fairly flat on about half of field and pigeons dropping in all over it from flightlines coming down either side of the field. Limited space to set up depending on where peas were flat and houses at one corner. Set up with flapper and 10 shells by 11:30 near one corner with a strip of wood behind me and houses about 200 yards to my left. Birds did not decoy well with many coming into trees at either side of hide. Had some nice crossers at 30-40 yards but many were out of range. Added magnet that pulled more birds from the far flightline but still did not commit into the pattern. Played around with pattern, magnet and flapper and moved hide 40 yards to left but never got many actual commit to the pattern. Made for some good sport though, more like shooting a flightline. Had dropped 71 when my mate Jack joined me at 6PM. Shot until 8 PM and I dropped another 13 and Jack, who I let have more of the shooting lost count...so we probably got a ton. Dogs did a good job of picking up in the laid peas with no damage but the wood behind us was thick with brambles and we lost a few in there. Finished with 90 picked.

All my permissions are around Edgmond.

Hopefully you will get some once the rape starts to be cut.

Motty insists I wear a old sack over my head when driving to his permissions , I tried to reassure him I had no intention of poaching them from him .

He said it was nothing to do with the poaching , just that I am so good looking he could not concentrate on his driving :ninja:

Noted - I am but a novice!! Most of my permissions were already or have become good friends of mine so I would hope they appreciate my efforts and would not accept requests from others.

I'm sure they do, but i'm sure farmers can be persuaded by others to grant them permission. I must admit that I very rarely let too many people know where I have had successes. I may say I shoot in the Kings Lynn area, but that is as accurate as I need to be.

I assure folk that is not the case!

Cheers Guys :unhappy: but am not that kind of guy !

I've met and shot with ShropshireSam before with ShropshireLad (Paul).

I was simply trying to share local knowledge and would happily share freely any info I had in the local area with him too.

I have plenty of land to shoot over thanks and I don't need any more.

Impressive bag, well done !
