Albert 888
I was under the impression that the plastic wad in steel cartridges was to protect the barrel from scoring, I haven't seen any fibre wad steel cartridges. I think a company was in the process of making some biodegradable Plas wads, proberbly made from update or somthing. I could be wrong tho
fenboy
There are very few steel loads available in anything other than plastic and as such we have no option but to use it when wildfowling.
wildfowler.250
Never given it much thought but ironic when steel is 'better' for wildlife yet it means littering plastic everywhere..
Penelope
I guess that will mean PAG in the not too distant. Hook or by crook. Spaniel
Sorted my kit yesterday I still have 100 gamebores bb 42g and over 100 Basc gold plated 4s so won't be buying any more just yet

It's expensive though. I'm looking at loafing my own.
kent
Can't see past gamebore mammoth. 36g 3's for the ducks and 42g 1's for the geese. Haven't tried the lightening steel but have no reason to try anything else Stick to what you know and trust otherwise you introduce doubt
figgy
I have both and to be honest both are good but would buy the Gamebore over the Eley Lightnings. Think they hit a bit harder. Confidence is a big part of our shooting as we don't normally fire many cartridges in a flight.
wildfowler.250
Stick to what you know and trust otherwise you introduce doubt Agree with that. Truth be told I quite fancy reloading but these shells do a perfect job. I'd probably rather a slightly smaller shot size for teal but the 3's cover everything from higher ducks to close geese well. anser2
I would agree with you Wildfowler .250 in that no 3 make a good all round wildfowling cartridge foe both close geese and ducks.

dawntredder
3's for ducks and 1's for geese mammoths also does just fine for me,I also like to use winchester dryloks and remi nitro steel bb's for geese when I'm flush ;-)
silver pigeon 3
Agree with that. Truth be told I quite fancy reloading but these shells do a perfect job. I'd probably rather a slightly smaller shot size for teal but the 3's cover everything from higher ducks to close geese well. The last 2 seasons I have been using the 36gr 4's when out over flashes/decoys or expecting a good teal flight. But as normal when you expect Teal all that flights is Mallard or Wigeon! I have been very impressed with them and had some really good birds using them, so much so I will be using them for a good bit of my fowling this year. I will still use the 3's for flighting Mallard and when the ranges are likely to be a little long.
Tony G
Don't know if they still are but the last lot of mammoths I got are actually US sizes So the 1's I've got are 4 mil which is UK BB and the 3's are actually 2's
Penelope
Mmm, I'll take a look at the case of a 100 3" 1's when I get home. Don't know if they still are but the last lot of mammoths I got are actually US sizes So the 1's I've got are 4 mil which is UK BB and the 3's are actually 2's
Farma Geddon
Gamebore have always used US SIZES for steel shot .
widgeon man
3's 3.5mm 1's 4mm always been that way with gamebore. Only thing that changed was powder in 3.5" mammoths used to be TK8

Kind of academic as I haven't had any problems but interesting to know
