Whitebridges
I found myself in the heart of England. No salty air. My wife and our girls wanted to visit a nan. Rutland was full and it was a bank holiday.I had 3/4 of a day for piece and tranqillity. Eyebrook. Lovely place. Flooded in the fifties, I think they flooded the Eye brook, or something similar. I'm a river bloke really. Beggars are never choosers. Lovely people at the lodge, welcoming and friendly. I trotted off to the boat. Two rods, both floating lines. Lovely it was. She started first pull and smoke. Umm two stroke. Eyebrook is a beautiful place. 11-2.30 8 feisty fish. Largest 6lb 8 oz. Weighed at the lodge. One bloke kissed me and ran off to his 4x4..... what did you get it on? The trout wasn't a looker but fought very hard. If you are near Eyebrook ( Rutland, Northants, Leicestershire), it is well worth a look. I think there area few trout buoys on here, all the best for the season. Whitebridges
Re the Dambusters Dweeb, inside the fishing lodge there is a nice poster about the dambusters so they may well have filmed at Eyebrook. I marinaded the fish and popped them in the smoker this morning. It's quite a load but they should be ready in about 8-10 hours.
Cranfield
I fished Eyebrook from the bank about 15 years ago, it was too rough for the boats. It looks as though you had almost perfect weather. Although it was like fly fishing in the surf, I caught 3 nice fish and really enjoyed walking round the place (not right round ). I also like fishing rivers, but when a lake/reservoir gets above 5 acres or so, it will do for me. EDIT NOTE those fillets look very, very nice. Whitebridges
It's been a long time since I last fished there Cranfield, must be about 15 years for me as well. It's a good walk around the lake, about 5 miles I think. I had intended to fish Rutland which has been pretty good to me over the years but all the boats were booked over the bank holiday. Eyebrook was a treat. All my fish were caught on small (14-16) black buzzers, cast out in to the breeze and fished very slowly. The takes were arm wrenching. It was great to see the little lad in the picture take a few fish. He was only 6 years old and fishing with his dad. I'm looking forward to a smoked fish supper. I'll let you all know what they turn out like.

Whitebridges
Cheers GSW. After a ten hour oak wood cure they turned out well. I'm going to make some pate out of some of the fillets.

Dunkield
Well done WB I fished there 3 years ago now, with 3 others we took a couple of boats out - it was a brilliant day.
Whitebridges
Cheers Stuart. It's great the season has got underway again. Eyebrook is a lovely spot and almost everyone out had a bent rod. I like fishing the ressies. We usually have a few days at Grafham which I enjoy although it isn't as scenic as Eyebrook. I love preparing all my own food and have just ordered a pukka Vacuum sealer. If anyone else has used used the same or similar device I'd be interested in your views.
