Jay_Russell
Just popped up the farm to see whats about and while there the farmer told me they had just started sowing the winter rape in a few of the stubble fields. I only had a few acres of rape this year so hoping i'll have a bit more sport in the coming months

Catamong
I'm predicting a difficult Winter for Pigeon shooting over Rape, certainly in my part of the Country, as there are loads of acorns around this year, which means the rape will not get much attention until well into the New Year. yickdaz
yep we have noticed the acorns that are showing on the oak trees, lean winter on the rape I think with some exceptions that is

Catamong
It always is difficult....... Yes, you're quite right, we get a lot of rape stubble shooters around these parts, who love to get out at this time of year and shoot relatively easy big bags, but, come November time, they seem to disappear completely, never to be seen again until late July the following year. I always reckon if you can get a 100 bird bag over Winter Rape between November and February, you've done very well, I managed it last Winter on more than one occasion, but I know i'll struggle this Winter, 'cos the birds prefer to eat Acorns than Rape, fact. Jay_Russell
There is indeed a lot of acorns and hazle nuts around this year. There rarely seams to be anyone else shooting around my way and only me on the 2000 acres i have. The only guy i know that does shoot the odd field near to my perm had a good winter just gone on his rape.
pigeon controller
I've noticed a good crop of acorns on the the trees but also a good number of micro acorns that have fallen and continue to fall off .
