6.5x55SE
I got a 12ga 1oz Buffered Steel shot load from a book from Ballistic Products.Having shot plenty of Geese with my 20ga 1oz Steel home loads I thought why not as this 12ga predicted just shy of 1600fps Having loaded the cartridges along with a couple of1-1/8oz steel load my mate recommended me I went local with my 14 month old Lab. Plenty of Greylag and Canada Geese and a few Mallard was fighting as I hurried to my spot several time's Geese went either side when finally a pair of Greylag came about 30yrd high but was going to cross about the same to my side my first shot with the 1-1/8oz stuffed the Goose the flairing other suffered the same result. Whilst taking a picture and talking on the phone several other Skeins came either side of me finally having sorted myself out I moved closer to the river hoping to try the 1oz loads on Duck just as I settled behind some Thistles I hear Greylag turning I see 40+ approximately 30-35yrd high with no time to change cartridges I managed to triple them to say I was chuffed is a understatement not only did my Cartridges work but my Little Lab retrieved all the Geese. I was grinning from ear to ear as I walked back to my vehicle with the sound of Greylag and Canada Geese going to roost whilst Mallard flighted out to stubbles

kent
One ounce of steel has a pellet count near magnum in lead and at the 1600 fps will kill just fine You just proofed the obvious that ain't so obvious to so many We have to leave load weights of the past in the past
6.5x55SE
Cheers Motty and Fenboy I'm itching to try the other Non Toxic on the Pinks. Kent I never have been a fan of heavy Steel loads over the years I've shot plenty of good Geese and Ducks with what others fealty are light Steel loads. I will definitely be loading some more of the loads I mentioned. Apart from a person's ability with a Shotgun I am a Great believer in Confidence in the ammunition you use and putting the shot in the right place. The cartridges was loaded with Steel 2's

marsh man
Excellent achievement with a 1-1/8 home loads , somebody asked on here last week what gun is recommended for geese , you have now proved ,whatever gun your used to as long as you put the shot in the right place and you stick to a sensible height. Also well done to your 14 month old lab , no mean fete for a young dog . .
