tx4cabbie
Have been trapping rats in our garage for a while, but only seem to get the babies, the adults appear to either be staying in the loft /cavity walls, or leaving the tempting scent of chocolate and peanut butter alone and seeking nourishment elsewhere - it's time to get serious about this, I've convinced lovely wife that the spaniel will not climb into the loft to get at the poison, now I just need to buy some. Can anyone recommend a decent poison that will kill the little verminous chewers, without breaking the bank?
oldypigeonpopper
hello, i find jaguar rat poison the best but make sure you destroy any dead rats in case taken by cats or birds of prey. the farm buy it on their chemical licence so look for who is allowed to buy. any problem pm me cheers

tx4cabbie
Thanks chaps, kind offer from jonny, I'll look into getting some of both to hedge my bets, and several air fresheners to offset the smell of dead ratty. rimfire4969
I use poison around my place in and around the barns its surprising how many decide to go and die outside. But if you do have one die in a wall cavity a couple of air freshens will not do the job, it will stink a stink that is extremely stinky I get mine from a local farm supply shop I normally get Slaymore but recently I have been buying the companies own brand quiet a bit cheaper with the same active ingredients Bromadiolone on whole wheat, its works very well for me on rats and mice. spinach
They stink in Summer but it's soon gone but come Autumn they stink and carry on for weeks, putting traps down takes an age before there used to it. We've got a problem and I can't find the nest. Usually see fresh soil, keep, going with the traps, are you using bated plastic ones or metal cages? I've been shooting them with an air rifle, it's good sport but I'm not sure you get rid of enough!! John
tx4cabbie
Been using snap traps baited with peanut butter, tried chocolate but got no takers, was good chocolate too!
Vince Green
They are not daft, traps soon lose their effectiveness. Once they see what happened to the previous rat that went there. If going for poison hit them hard when you start. What you don't say is what they are eating now. You only get rats when there is food for them to eat. Absolutely vital you address that one, try and starve them out.
tx4cabbie
Absolutely no idea, no food in garage, which is where I'm getting most trap snaps, some hits from kitchen cupboard, which has no back for access to pipes, going to pull kickboards off and cover any holes with stainless steel mesh, but no actual food in there and no access from there to kitchen. Think they're going from garage to outside, getting apples and slugs, and just using my loft as a doss house. Buying poison this wkd, going to get a few kg and dose the loft and fill the holes I've been worried to fill up until now, for fear of making them chew into main house. If there's nice fresh poisoned grain, they should have a party, and hopefully no survivors.
