Totsy
Anyone any experience with them? I've never seen a working field spaniel.
Stonepark
I have seen them working, almost bought a pup but ended up getting another springer, slower than a springer but helps them being steadier. Good hunting/picking up dogs, would suit a stand one/drive one syndicate.
eieieio
If you want a slower spaniel then working Clumbers seem to be coming quite fashionable. The minor breed clubs put on quite a few good events throughout the year by all accounts.
Paul T
I know someone who has field spaniels, but I've never known any actually work in the field. Personally, I'd look more in the 'working cocker' direction.
archi
Climber spaniel if definitely a good option You are based in a good area to find one as you can't be that long a drive from someone that has one to look at. I got mine from Alan gywinne (windmillwood gundogs)

Personally, I'd look more in the 'working cocker' direction. All working spaniels are "field" spaniels, but all field spaniels are definitely not working spaniels. Would like to see some photos from williamr's son's pair. Also from archi's working clumber - any to share? Another tough find is a working Sussex but when they work, they Work with a capital "W". even going into their 14th year of Working. MG Do Sussex spaniels come in multi coloured eg liver and white as this might be the same as a spaniel we use to have but we where miss lead to its breed being told he was a Cumberland Rough. Is a Sussex slightly smaller than a English springer and a lighter build ours could retrieve most game but had to drag a hare very hard working dog best we ever had.
